The MeatEater Podcast did an episode recently with 3 women who were attacked by otters, one of which was severely injured and nearly died. It was crazy

Everytime I walk through a beaver pond I think about what a beaver could do to me with those teeth. I never gave otters a thought.

Everytime I walk through a beaver pond I think about what a beaver could do to me with those teeth. I never gave otters a thought. I floated around a curve in a creek in my kayak last year and came face to face with a beaver at about 6 feet. He was asleep but my little dog was on the front of the boat. Mr. Beaver ended up catching a 40 caliber round from my M&P Shield because I figured it'd be on if he woke up.

By far, the meanest critters I ever caught in leg hold traps were otters. Some bobcats would growl and act tough, and sometimes a big coon would, but an otter always let me know that he would attack instantly if he could only get out of the trap.
They were also the hardest thing to hold once I caught one. More than half of them managed to get away before I got to them.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
