Texas. Lived there 15 years. Abilene to San Antonio to Ozona back to San Angelo. Great hunting. Big deer.
"We have an opponent in this state that we work every day, 365 days a year, to dominate."

Texas, South Texas to be specific, and the best hunting is in Webb County. There will also likely be more wild hogs than you have ever seen.
If you can't get into Webb County, don't stress, because the great hunting starts south of San Antonio, and just gets better the closer you get to the Webb County/Laredo area.
We have also had great trips in Live Oak, Zavala, Dimmit and Duval counties. There is less free range, but still good deer between Houston and San Antonio on the Post Oak Plateau. Also great hunting in the Hill Country, but the deer will be smaller bodied. I killed an 8 point near Harper a few years back that scored 128, but was only 98 lbs live weight.
We have killed several in the 220-250 lb range in Webb County.

I see a lot of answer being Texas but you have to define “free range” because there is a lot of fence out here. It wasn’t specified whether it to be a paid hunt or public land.

I’m a free range guy. I don’t believe in penning up natural/native game nor calling them “yours”. If you are looking for a Texas outfitter for a trophy buck then its only limited by your wallet. I actually find satisfaction in Alabama hunting, it seems a simpler process. My favorite states to hunt in are all in the south but I don’t shoot bucks anymore and I never was a rack hunter. I have 15 acres kinda surrounded by the Bienville National Forrest off I-20 in Mississippi that I would have to say is among my favorite spots. The difference in my Hill Country Texas spot is the amount of game species, exotic, supposed non-native, invasive, and native. Its unreal ! The best part about it is I let the whitetails walk because the other species are 24/7/365 no tags, no season. I can pop one of these reds, and elk, or red/elk hybrid and I’m set for meat for a year or more If I shoot these I shoot the babies Lil rascal Average whitetail Best part of Texas Hill Country
