I hate to say things like "I hope it hits us" because I know that if it does, that means that many down south will suffer. I just pray we get rain, from something, whether from the stormm, or the front that's predicted to pull it ashore.
We have two large Water Oaks in our front yard that provide mid day and spotty afternoon shade. They started shedding leaves last night. My front yard is covered with leaves. I have not seen this happen in the 17 years we've lived here. The leaves that are coming off are gray. Looking up into the trees, there's thousands of gray leaves on those two trees. I sure hope that they aren't going to die. If they do, I won't have one bit of shade and our power bill will definitely climb. We have Oak Wilt here. I'm afraid that the stress may help it hit those two trees.
I spot mowed my yard again today. I'm a yard guy. My yard normally looks like a golf course. I have not mowed my front yard in over 2 months. The Tifsport bermuda in the front hasn't even sent up seed heads. My back yard is pure clay, a rarity on Sand Mountain. The grass back there is still greenish. I'm mowing it because of some small spot of crab grass. Just keeping the seed from maturing. I'm clipping about 1/2" off the bermuda and mowing about every 10 days. I've tried irrigating and from appearances, it's not helping. We got 1/2" of rain, 3 Saturdays ago. Just a random, pop up shower. It didn't green up any grass that I can see from my house. The pastures here are done for the year.
There was a snippet on channel 31 news this past week. I wish I had posted it here, because I know some of you guys think that I "cry wolf" about it getting dry here. It seems like if there's a drought in AL, that it hits Marshall county, every time. The young lady that's a meteorologist explained why it was often dry on Sand Mountain. We know it's because of the mountain, but she explained the science behind it. I can't remember the term she used for the weather anomaly.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
