Man - i went on pay hunt today and i paid everybody way. I hav done that some with good friends - it was only like $85/a gun. It is first time in my life on a dove hunt where i never shot even once and nobody from my group shot once and we sat long time

I did not complain - but noticed several things. We were in a pasture and there was nothing planted. A long ways away i saw a little plowed ground l. I should hav asked questions
I also noticed a few of the other hunters wearing hunters orange. One of the lone birds we did see on hunter orange guys side of field amd immediately turned as it approach hunter orange guy. He had a scope or that turkey thing on his gun. Is it humanly possible to shoot a dove thru that?? 🤣🤣. If it was my hunt or i was running it - i would ask guy to lose the orange in a nice way

I said nothing and all i could do was be nice regarding the hole thing

Food was good - but nowhere to sit - we went back to truck with our plates and ate

Not a big deal - it was supposed to be about the boys - great fellowship with us 4 but a heck of a tuff sit in big time heat! Hav to laugh - but that was by far the worst dove hunt of my life 😀

Went on one like that a few years ago. There were some shooting but way away from us. We saw the writing on the wall and left. Lucky for us, cause game warden came shortly after and wrote a bunch of tickets for hunting over bait.

I have put on a hunt for family and friends for 20 plus years. This year was by far the lowest bird numbers. They had plenty of food, just no birds. It don't sound like that was the case for y'all. I don't wear it, but the hunters orange doesn't bother them. I'd rather be in a field full of hunters orange as I had with a few mojos. No mojos is my only rule that is not a common sense safety rule. If it was a very small group, they would be great. In my opinion they make the birds fly to low for a safe shoot with several guns.

Took my to be wife on a paid shoot down in autagaville several years back 100$ each and saw 1 bird. The guy hosting was smoking birds over his personal top sown wheat patch. Was suppose to draw for a beretta or benelli and turned out to be a yiildiez

Went on a state youth hunt at Draper in Elmore county a long time ago. Dude smack in the middle of the field was wearing an orange deer vest. It was a good shoot but birds were flaring like crazy. Somebody finally went to the dude and talked to him. Birds were pouring in and it was one the best shoots I’ve ever been on.

I dont think these dudes were aware how to attract birds - we were n middle of a pasture - there was nothing but grass for them to fly into - no fresh plow ground - or burn area - no food

That one dove broke his neck turning when he saw orange hat with the scope 🤣🤣

But They just didnt hav birds though

I think I would look at the field before I paid. Or ask the guy what they had planted or what. I know a lot of pasture guys just top sow with wheat for their winter pasture. Some of the best hunts I've been on have been top sowed pastures and you can hardly tell that the wheat is there.

Should hav asked questions. Think they good folks - he showed me what they did after - they plowed/planted a small area for deer a d we were a ways from that area. The grass was kind of fresh cut but still tall where we were at - i felt sunk when we got there. My partners did too

Its all good - it happens

To the other deal mentioned - dove can see orange great - birds see color. You can even google that. If they going to a corn pile it may work - dont know but still would not wear orange

Good folks or not he should have done a better job on field prep. It ain’t rocket science. Also should have postponed the hunt if no birds.

T…I think I was there as well lol my dad and I were. Dang man wish I had known or would have introduced myself. We were sitting on the end of that long strip of haybales in the middle of the hayfield with a mojo I stuck out on top of the bale. It was hot as balls out there.

I did it more to support the ministry and my buddy who was in charge. He said they couldn’t plant the hayfield as that was the guys hayfield they leased from. They did wms dove magnet down in the dip. He had said there had been birds when he was there the past week but there was a field across the road burning it down he told me today he found out they baited the crap out of the field with wheat.

They are very good people and my buddy was tore up no one did any good. The food was great and the people were good people that I met.

Yep saw them in the orange hats and was like thank God I ain’t sitting over by them.

Yea - i was the one that kept walking to the bail behind me every 30 min talking to my preacher and his boy - we were roasting our nuts off 😀

Orange hat had something like a scope on his gun 🤣🤣 - i was right by him - wanted to give him a tip and thought - it will not come off right. I eventually moved away from him

Yea - i was there - not going to name the dude cause i thought they were good folks - food was good amd i could tell he was distraught. Hate we didnt meet - but i know exactly where you were sitting 😀

All i could say to him was it happens

Was wondering why he didnt plant something in pasture. The wms will be weak attractant 😀

You know Gobble4me - i kind of wanted to give him some friendly suggestions to be helpful - but did not want to come across bitter cause that would not be my intent

If u know him - wonder if they could plow the pasture any in a few areas or burn a few strips. Covered wms (he said it was planted deer field - most everybody covers magnet) is almost like no attractant

I prob would not do the hunt if that is all i am doing. I got covered wms now and it does not draw birds. My corn does - but i dont dove shoot my land - keep it quiet out there

I have seen (on TV, not in person) some folks using a Speed Bead, or the like, for wingshooting. I don't think I'd like it, personally

That land around Draper has always been good hunting.

I went on Dove Hunt in Dekalb Co last weekend got skunked. The owner said he had not seen any doves all week. It be that way sometimes. It's like the birds think they can just fly around doing whatever they please or something.
