My mom worked in a Kmart for 30+ years. It was my first job too. My Mom worked there in the 70's and I worked for Kmart around '84. Kmart TG&Y Sky City Now I sound like my Dad talking about the good old days.

As I remember, the problems started when they broke their deal with Sam Walton about not putting a K-mart across the road from a Walmart.

Sears bought K-Mart thinking they could compete with Walmart better, but that was when Amazon was coming on the scene. So Sears took K-mart down with it.

A few of you will get that.

I wanted to buy a Marlin 30/30 from TG&Y back in the day, had the cash in the bank, dad said no. It would have cost my $95 with the $25 mail in rebate.
Got a Winchester 94 30-30 from Service Merchandise in the early 80,s. $75.

Anyone remember the Kmart sandwiches you could get in the Kmart deli back in the 70's ? WOW! Does that bring back memories.. I was in K-Mart one time and went to the deli and ordered a ham sandwich. Opened the wrapper and the bun was about 3” thick with 1 paper thin slice of ham….The lettuce was thicker than the ham……..

You went to the K-Mart to get you a Marlin 30-30 or Winchester Model 70 Ranger. They had better guns than the WalMarks. Service Merchandise had High Standard shotguns that were really well made shotguns.
I remember getting a slurpie at K-Mart they had dang slurpie machine up front at every one of them. I shopped at the K-Mart here in Birmingham till it closed I have always hated going in a WalMart.
I'm pretty sure some of y'all got your first pair of earrings at Goldbro.

Miss the good old days in Foley. Western Auto, Harco, Otasco, The Dime Store, then Walmart moved in and destroyed all the mom and pops. When the Trading Post came on WHEP, the local AM channel, you best not disturb momma.

You went to the K-Mart to get you a Marlin 30-30 or Winchester Model 70 Ranger. My uncle got my Win M70 .30-06 at Service Merchandise. Was a high school graduation present. I recall getting some fairly good deals on ammo at Kmart over the years. I recall they had Icee cups dispensers at the registers. Pretty good marketing IMO
