For you guys looking at all these newer cartridges out there When one of them interests you then do a ballistics search on it and compare it to the older long existing cartridges In most every case your lust for that new cartridge fade quickly when you see there is not enough speed, power, distance to make a difference
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

Life is too boring for everybody to shoot a 30-06 I’m not sure why but the 30-06 is a caliber I’ve never owned. Back when I did own rifles I had a ton of different calibers based off the ‘06 cartridge but no ‘06. Maybe one day if I decide to own rifles again.

without getting waaaay into the weeds, in general, the redeeming reason for many of the newer cartridges that often get accused of being redundant is to address two things
1. the "modern" cartridges are generally being spec'd with much tighter chamber tolerances. this allows average production rifles to have a higher instance of outstanding accuracy, greater case life and allows you to have a much higher instance of finding factory ammo that will give you outstanding accuracy. not saying that the older cartridges cant and don't shoot well, but it often requires handloading, neck sizing, or testing many ammo combination to find something that's great.
2. most of "modern" cartridges are designed to excel when used with heavy for caliber, high BC bullets. both through faster SAAMI spec rifling twist and by going with shorter case lengths to allow bullets to be seated further out. 7PRC/ &rem mag, 6.8 Western/ 270 Win, 6mm Creed/ 243 Win. Many of these modern cartridges are also able to reach performance level with factory ammo that would require handloads to reach in the vintage cartridges.
I say all this as someone who loves, owns and shoots ALL the old classic cartridges, but I love them for their history, for their contribution to the sport and for nostalgia. I fully acknowledge their shortcomings and choose to use them anyway, but I have certainly never wondered why the modern cartridges are so popular.

Need to change the thread title to “just my opinion” Apparently you dont read about the cartridges you shoot Very few modern cartridges have made any huge difference from the older proven cartridges All most of the modern cartridges do is fill speed gaps and they get folks to ooh and ahh over them One big pissing contest

IMO: new cartridges are 95% marketing strategies to sell more rifles. And folks swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
I do agree that there is a slight benefit for faster twist barrels in some of the newer whiz-bang offerings to better stabilize heavier for caliber bullets in LR applications. But that's the 5% that's not rifle selling strategy.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

If you made me choose just ONE I'd pick the .375 h&h. A fine cartridge!
