Well we worked daylight till after dark this week to finish up. The corn is about half what it should be because of the drought. Grain sorghum and millet done good. The rice which I planted for the first time is putting on a head and I am excited to see what it does. Last year we did not have any water when the ducks came through. When they started back north we were covered up so I hope they remember lol. We started pumping water Thanksgiving day last year. This storm which is going to be a deadly event and I am praying for these people. Will probably fill all the fields and will be full of food and water when they come down. We will see !!!

It has not been good in last 2 years. No water so they bought a pump last year. This year will be the test. You would not believe what you are up against here in Jackson county. Some operations have wells they pump from and they had flooded fields last year when the ducks came through. I just work for them planting and trapping. But if this rain pans out hopefully it will be good.

Don't yall get a yearly count? Like a rough estimate? Is it 1,000 or 10,000 or? Just a guess if you can.

The whole areas consists of farms that have low ground at the back that has been to wet to plant because of beavers. Two farms have been bought by hunters .We are talking about less than a hundred acres total low land. They killed about 125 ducks total last year but we did not have water till way up into season. There is no well so have to depend on rain. They bought a pto pump last year but it was Thanksgiving day before it could be used. Their land is next to me so I have been trying to get them to do more because I enjoy doing that kind of thing. When i was young all fields were farmed and you would get several good rains during season and it would be great for 3 or 4 days till the water went down. When the beavers got so bad in the 90"s the farmers did not have time to constantly fight the beavers and a lot of the low land became neglected and some began to become overgrown. If you are not familiar with this area you would not believe the deep pockets that want to kill a duck. Between Hollywood and Stevenson there have been millions and millions of dollars spent on killing a duck. Some have a 100 or more acres of fields being flooded right now. People getting 6,000 to 10,000 an acre for land. The only thing i see that may help is the ducks will start using this area more like they did years ago.

Dove and ducks sure do. I highly doubt a turkey would pass it up or a deer if strolled through a patty

Most of the rice in TN, AR, MO, and IL has been cut and then that last hurricane came through so the waste rice has germed. There will be a lot less rice laying around for food

Should have went to ND. Daughter's boyfriend and a couple of others went last week and killed geese, Pintail, Gadwall, Mallards. Think they killed around 150+ for the group (5 or 6 guys)

Your lips to God's ears.

Yall got ducks Semo?

Not many. I live on the river, so when Illinois central and south central seasons come in I can hear them shooting. It has been really quiet. I think I heard two volleys on Saturday and only 1 on Sunday.

I hunt in the south zone and haven't been over there since mid October. Season starts November 30th, so I'll start paying attention next week.

I have heard mallards every evening since Thursday. We going to try to pump 12 hours today. If we get that rain tomorrow it will be lovely ๐Ÿฅฐ

I've been hearing specs everyday. Most of the time they are headed south and sometimes they are going north.

Pumped water all day yesterday. Ducks are starting to come to the bottoms a little. By no means a lot but when season opens hopefully it will get them hunting a safe place to roost. One year i deer hunted thanksgiving morning and saw very few ducks go over. The next day on Friday was the first day of duck season when they started blasting everywhere i saw a ton in the air

My first year in a while I havenโ€™t heard them

Throwing decoys out Sunday afternoon. Weather looks like itโ€™s going to act right for the opener. Fingers crossed
