Last week I gained permission to hunt a small parcel that has three old plots on it. Ranging from .3 - .5 acres in size. Place has a solid deer density so I do not want to solely rely on corn and natural browse this fall. Being as late as is, I still want to plant the plots and then work on getting the soil right this spring. Only time I have to plant is this coming Wednesday, so I am crunched for time. Considering going heavy on the fertilizer/seed. Say 400lb/acre of 17-17-17 and planting wheat/oats @ 200/acre. Might top dress some clover, but I do not know yet. I typically don't seed/fertilize such high rates, but this will just be a short term remedy until I can get some samples ran.

Will this work or waste of time/money?

I have grained drilled 175 lbs per acre and my go to ratio of fertilizer is 350 pounds of triple 17. You will be fine if you get some rain.
