I'm gonna say one gets nailed once in a while. I've almost been hit by 2 deadfalls, and spend little time in the woods
compared to a Deer. Is it "Deer 101" to go out in an open field when it's roaring like it was last night ? The woods were
rocking here from 11:15pm to about 1:30 am. I have several trees and many tops and branches down. Just had to wonder
what a Deer strategy would be, and if more mature animals handle it better. I would have been scared to death to be
outside last night. Add in flash floods and downed wires and traffic type stuff. ???

Kip Adams made a post on TikTok about this yesterday. He said that 84 whitetails wearing gps collars were tracked in the panther national wildlife refuge where Hurricane Irma hit in 2017. All 84 deer survived. Here is the link to what he said about it.

I found 3 dead under a tree struck by lightning about 15 years ago. Only time I’ve seen any storm related mortality.

Usually when it’s raining I have deer bedded down in the front pasture

I know when we got hit by hurricane Michael back in 2018 I heard of a couple different people that found deer dead from trees falling on them and they just happen to find them. To me it's believable because I can't tell you how many tracts of planted pines that had trees 8-10 inches around and every tree was broke off 10-15 feet up.

I have found a bunch of dead hogs and a few deer from flooding but nothing from storm damage.

Plenty of dead sqwerls and snakes around here after Sally, but only know of one dead deer that was crushed by a pine tree.

Floodwaters drown hogs all the time.... I imagine deer are much better swimmers, but prolonged flooding can have some pretty detrimental effects on wildlife

I could envision deer hearing the trunks crack and then being able to get up and sprint away by the time it hits the ground. They dodge arrows, so I would guess a tree splitting in half or uprooting would trigger a panic

Deer are some of the best and strongest swimmers of any land animals I have ever seen swim. I have seen deer swim on a flooded Alabama River in a straight line to where they are heading and never waiver or show any signs of being swept downstream. I was amazed at just how strong a deer is when I seen that multiple times.
