Buddy called last night and said he shot the buck he was after. But, said the shot looked a little too far back. I drove over to help him this morning and we looked for about 5 hours. Only a couple spots of blood. The deer was eventually found, but because it got warm we didn't trust the meat. Such a shame to waste meat like that. But that thing stank really bad. Anyway, he has the antlers and I guess that is better than nothing. That is the reason I haven't hunted yet. Just too warm.

It was a really nice buck. Especially for archery. I did have him long arm that picture, but it is a great deer anyway.

Amazing deer I don’t care how he killed him. That might make book as bow kill. Congrats! How far did he go and how’d y’all find him?

The shot was only about 30 yards but he said he thinks it took a step right as he shot. The deer ran 30 yards and bedded down. He waited a minute and decide to shoot at it again. But he could only see the antlers in the grass. Aimed lower and it got up and ran off. We found out later that he did hit it in the neck but only cut about 2 inches deep. The arrow had no blood but some short white hairs. (seemed like a good idea at the time, but probably was not). The other arrow looked good. The blood we found was dark, but not crazy. At first I was thinking liver. But when we didn't find any more blood I figured it was too far back for liver (and it was).

The deer was found about 700 yards from the shot. We spent most all our time looking out to only about 500 yards. Though we were probably 40 yards from it a couple hours prior to recovery.
