I’ve got a spot I’ve been feeding the last couple years and always has plenty of deer and a few good bucks coming to it, anyway about 4 days ago 3 yotes showed up and they’ve been frequent and deer pics have went next to nothing, do yotes eat corn? I wanted to save this spot for rifle season but I may have to go see if I can kill a couple

I had a couple of pit bulls feeding on one of my feeders a few years ago and one day they just stopped showing up.

Coyotes will absolutely eat corn….and they will eat it and deer will tolerate their presence on occasion…ive had deer and yotes eating corn at the same time right out in front of me…they were a good distance from each other..but they seemed to not care about each other’s presence at all.

I would not say that is a normal occurrence…but i think ag a certain point…everything is basically starving to death and a meal is a meal

Everything eats corn. Several years ago when I was planting it they would pick it off the stalk then eat it in the shade under a big cedar tree. After someone told me why there were several cobs under the tree, I got my first taste of trapping the things.

They’ll eat it but they’re likely checking the spots where deer frequently concentrate……They’ll do the same thing with scrapes. They know that there’s about to be a bunch of wounded deer in certain locations whether it be food plots, feeders, or paved road crossings….They target locations where injured and killed food is found

Get yotes hitting my scrape lot in jan - figured it was for wounds. They just started hammering my mineral licks - but new fawns been showing up - only time yotes hit the lick - they looking for fawns. I just set traps

I have actually seen a coyote and a deer at the same feeder at the same time. Deer wasn’t worried about him.

We kept a corn pile for cows in the barn. Our dogs would stop and get a bite now and then
Some more than others. They know what and when they need more than we do.

I’ve personally never seen a yote eat corn. Not saying they don’t just never seen it. I’ve seen them come to feeders occasionally and I assumed they were looking for mice or squirrels. I turned one’s head into soup last season trying to sneak up on a group of turkeys under a feeder.

They used to MALL my sweetcorn patch when it got ready before I relocated the spot closer to the house. They LOVE anything sweet-----corn,cantaloupes,watermelons,muscadines,etc.

I hear coyotes are the buzzard of the ground and will even eat feces. An observation I have noticed around baiting areas. I use to put out corn in a another state with legal laws on using it without having to buy a baiting permit before it really caught on in Alabama. If you want to keep a kid interested in hunting find a big lot of acorn trees and add corn to the mix. There will be non-stop action from all animals up and down the food chain. I remember shooting 12 squirrels one morning and probably had 5 get away. From rats, quail, to all things in between feeders atract it all. I wouldn't be surprised how many predators lay up around baiting stations. One year I had a bobcat mother with 3 cubs hanging out. Now I kind of think I should have let the bobcats go, they were more interesting to see than most deer. If they could have matured and been trapped a fur coat sure would have been unique. In the area I hunted, folks done shot all the turkeys, so the bobcats weren't their biggest threat, it was people. What I have learn is in most cases folks are more of a threat to most game than any predator. We thin the deer poplulation down in some cases and then the predators finish the few deer off and we want to say the coyotes did it. When in some cases we should have let every deer walk and been killing yotes all the time.
