I know, I know. It's bow season and yeah I'm fired up to get in the woods with my bow on a cool October or November morning. I can't help but think about being in the Spring Turkey woods though. Here is a neat gem that someone posted on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k2KuKNoJ5g&t=688sBen Lee would be about 80 years old today if he had not died in a car crash in 1991. Not sure if he would have made it to 80 years old, but some good ones have gone too soon over the years. My older brother bought a VHS tape around 1988 or 1989. It was titled "Hunting the Rut, with Ben Lee and Don Bell." I watched that video over and over when I was little. Don Bell at one time lived in Atmore, Alabama near where I grew up. So to us, he was a local celebrity in the hunting industry. I never met Ben Lee, but sure would have liked to chat with him about hunting. Not sure how many videos Ben Lee was a part of. I would like to have a collection of them. Brings back some good memories of growing up.

Love it!
My mom grew up with his daughter in Coffeeville going over to their house all the time. First turkey call and cassette tape I ever heard/learned on was his tape and mouth call. I heard stories all the time about him growing up there in Coffeeville with my family.

Turkey killing legend. I've got that same video somewhere. People that knew him from Mcintosh, Calvert, Jackson, and Grove Hill would also tell you that he was also a big fan of using scratch and wheat seed, on private properties that he actually had written permission to be hunting on. Like Tall Dog said, if he heard one, he was going to try to kill it. Weren't near as many hard core turkey hunters, and times and attitudes about land and game were different back then. Dont get me wrong, he could definitely call one in and was a really good woodsman. No telling how many he would kill in a season and I'd hate to know how many he killed in his lifetime. He'd kill today's 4 bird limit in just a matter of a few days, if the weather was good.

Saw him win Southeastern Open in the Montgomery Civic Center when I was in my early teens. Dad took me and he fell asleep during the contest! Musta been late 70s or early 80s. He was a big ole boy then.

I remember him running a box call under a camo cooking apron and thinking that’s brilliant.

I went to 2 of his shows and bought some of his calls. He could tell some stories.

His stories are hilarious. The one he took the guy and he shot a turkey off a limb in the pasture is great.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!
