So I’ve got a big dead pine next to a food plot that needs to come down. I’ve cut down plenty of trees, just not a dead pine this big.
Jdub and the tree experts… what’s the best way to do it. I got a 70hp tractor and some rope. Only 1 way it can’t fall and that’s towards the redneck blind lol.
Sorry for the bad picture. It’s the only one I could find on my camera roll.

Push it with the loader, cut it part way through if needed.
Someone told me the dead top might come back in the tractor if I push on it? The only thing worse than falling on the $3k blind is falling in the $70k tractor lol. I don’t know 2Dogs like I said I’ve never fooled with a dead one.

Don’t do this unless you want that top or one of those limbs sticking through the hood or cab of that nice tractor.
I would raise someone up on that pallet as high as it would reach and hook a long cable (long enough to protect the tractor from the falling tree) around the tree, hold tension on it with the tractor and saw it down.

Just lay the loader on it up high and be real easy. I've cut several that way.

Do not push with tractor . If it wobbles too much top will break out hit your tractor . Tie long rope as high up bucket will lift u. Make sure it longer than length of tree. Tug on it with tractor while someone saws backside . Don’t have notch it . May fall while ur notching if bad rotten.

id never touch that pine with the loader. as already mentioned get a long rope as high as ya can & notch it. then pull it down or anchor the rope off to another tree with a turnbuckle at the bottom end. tighten the turnbuckle & let the next cold front blow it down in that direction. done several that way that i couldnt get tractor access

Those types of trees are called "widow makers" for a reason. Been many an equipment operator killed pushing on tall dead trees like that. The top is thinner than the trunk and it rots out much quicker. If it's still solid up top, youre fine. But if it is not, and you wont know for sure until you push on it, when you push on it, the trunk will want to move and when it does, the top will wobble out on the push and when it sways back, a lot of times it is enough for it to break off and it'll fall right back on top of the cab. Brushwhacker is correct on the safe way. Get a long rope as high up on the trunk as you can, get the tractor or a truck hooked to the rope and pulling in the direction you want it to fall and just cut it off from the backside.

Cut it just like you would a green one except push it very gently, just enough to get it to go over. If you rock it or push it fast the top could break out. Push it gently and in case you didnt hear me, push it gently. Dont cut all the way through it, leave about 2" holding in the middle. And one more thing, push it gently, just enough to get it to lean. And let the saw man get out of the eay before you push it

I would cut it just like i said and wouldnt worry much about it. That tractor would easily push it. If you decide youd rather pull it, set your rope as high as the fel will lift you and pull gently. Personally, i like the chances better pushing it. I wouldnt put a rope in it unless it was leaning really bad, that one isnt

I would notch it and cut it without pushing it with the tractor. If you are worried aboutmajing a mistake and hitting the blind use a rope to help guide it away.

All it should take is a little pressure with the loader , won't even have to push with the tractor. I'd be more concerned with raising someone on that pallet than easing the tree over. FYI , the cage/frame those big totes set in make a great high work cage for a loader or forklift . Just tie it off to the rear guard on the forks.
