My 13 year old grandson will be going deer hunting this year with me. What do I need to do so if he kills one, how does he report the harvest? Does he need to go online and get a Hunter Exempt License Privilege (HELP) license or stop by a license agent to get the HELP? Is that all? Thanks.

I hav added my step som on to my license. On line gives option to switch user. I got all my license on phone and got his bait privilege too

I thought in Alabama you didn't need anything to hunt if you are under 16? My grandson is 8 and I didn't buy him anything last year, not even a baiting permit. Does he need a baiting permit?

Ok I will get him one. They could at least made it exempt for kids under 16. I have a friend who does not hunt bring his boys this year and now they have to get baiting license.

If your friend is sitting with them, he has to have the full license and baiting license too. Regardless of whether he is actually on the gun or not.

Even exempt folks (under 16 or over 65) must purchase baiting privilege if they'll be hunting over bait. you must also have them apply for a HELP number to allow them to report any harvest. Also, if you're taking your kid on a dove hunt (or woodcock) you need to make sure they still do the HIP registry for migratory gamebirds

That's why I said check into it. He does need a license and the kids under 16 be put under him. I assume he's not an alabama resident over the age of 65 if he has kids under 16.

I went through all of this with my 6 year old son last season…I ended up calling the local District DCNR office and asked for guidance on what to do!!!

Like others have mentioned above: you have to establish a conservation ID number for him first. Then, purchase his baiting privilege. He will then have his own printed hunting license with spaces for turkey/deer Game Check numbers. You’ll have to check his harvests online or via telephone just like an adult

I'm going to get him a HELP so he can log in his harvest if he gets one. We aren't baiting, so he won't need that. Thanks for the responses.
