So did I. Right along with the decoy. All I ever did was run deer to the next counties with them.

I had great luck with em 20 plus years ago, but when everyone in the club is using a grunt, bleat, and doe pee pee now at the same time it's kinda funny 🤣 Deer be like

I've grunted in a pile of deer over the years. Don't get to carried away with it and don't be super loud. Just do some short grunts and leave it at that. Don't try to do the long "bawls" like you see the TV hunters do on deer up North. I've always had best results if you grunt when the sun is just getting up into the trees in the morning and just before it drops down behind the trees in the evenings.

I’ve found that early season corn piles and cameras are more effective. 😂 why roll the dice on a grunt call when the odds are in your favor with some corn and rice bran. They howngry right now.

I remember seeing folks make the uhhh! sound on tv. I had an massive 7 point that would go close to 200 pounds walk out on a trail one morning. Made the sound as I was raising up to shoot. The deer took off later to be shot by a latino guy from the local spanish community in the area. Learn then tv deer are totally different than high pressured Alabama deer.

Midwest deer are stupid and you can get away with about anything. We walk right up on them when turkey hunting in the spring
In Missouri and Nebraska. You see a grown buck in Alabama the only noise you need to voluntarily send his way is the crack of that bullet exiting the barrel lol.

I have killed a few deer grunting in Alabama. Typically they involved a doe in the open looking at something in the thicker brush. Several times a grunt was all it took to get the buck out of the cover. Maybe they would have come out eventually anyway but normally this has happened in the afternoon with legal shooting light fast approaching.

I’ll tell another trick that works like a charm but you gotta kinda know the land and terrain to be able to choose the right spot to pull it off…..I was able to do it because I knew exactly where the deer were bedded and how close I could get without them seeing me……

Wait until the rut when bucks are locked down with doe groups…..Sneak in close to a bedding area during midday when its calm and still and you can hear a mouse fart…..A hardwood drainage along side of a pine thicket is an ideal setup…The key here is that you’re not just gonna walk into the hardwood drainage like normal……You want to slowly walk one step at a time with the stomping cadence of a stiff legged buck……Do that for about 20-30 yards then stop and paw the ground raking the leaves…..After that immediately sit down and blow your grunt call one time…..Works like a charm in the right spot at the right time….. wink

It’s true. I practice this walking cadence each year. You have to get the rhythm right for it to be effective. Sometimes I’ll go hard toe-heel and give the four legged effect. When done right it’s hard to beat.
