I had 3 grandkids by the time I was 47. My grandparents on my mom's side was about 40 when I was born. If your mom had kids at 19-20 and then you had your first at 19-20 then you would be about 39-40 when you had your first grandkids. This was typical until this new generation who has been waiting until late 20s to have kids. They think they have to be "ready". You are never ready for kids.

But I feel very fortunate to get my grandkids all the time. My son works one weekend a month and I get to take my grandson by myself to the hunting cabin and I would not want to be anywhere else in the world than with him at hunting camp.
