You can put all the laws and rules in place, but until said laws or rules are enforced, people are gonna keep on keeping on. The same amount of young bucks are being killed now as there always was. Back in the days of doe days, every buck seen with a visible antler got shot. I’m the days of the big dog clubs, every buck with a visible antler got shot. No days the 3 buck limit is useless because there is no way to enforce it. The sad part is for every hunter in Alabama that tries to do it right there are 2 that shoot anything and everything that looks like a deer. Heck we had a couple guys in our group early on that thought they could shoot anything and everything while all the others followed the rules we had put in place. They didn’t last long!! I hate to say this and never thought I’d say it but I really think Louisiana does a way better job managing our deer population then Alabama does. Only bad thing about Louisiana is it’s hard for a group of guys to find good land to lease. You can join clubs but we’re not hunting club people. We want our on place to hunt the way we want. Fortunately we found that in Alabama.

I saw 22 does in a field yesterday where I live. Not a single horn amongst them. Very minimal hunting pressure in several miles in any direction. We don't shoot any does and kill 1-2 bucks a year. You said, “We don’t kill any does.” There’s your answer. Doe harvest is always a part of managing a deer herd. We have as many bucks as does it seems, still have phenomenal fawn recruitment, an intense rut, and plenty of mature bucks, and we are killing 35-40 does every year on 2500 acres, and have been for a very long time. Might kill 4-5 bucks the entire season. We also have great habitat that can support a lot of deer.

Lol Ohhhh wait . I guess now thry spend that free time up the processors a$$ now to make sure the keeping tabs on the game check thingy

I think most people that blast spikes and 4 pointers shoot a .243.
We should start by banning .243s for grown men and all kids and women over 52lbs.. That's the root of all our problems. Men with a lack of adequate hardware.
We voting on that tomorrow. Vote NO to .243's in Men's Locker Rooms.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Have yall ever killed 35-40 bucks in a season and only 4 or 5 does? I think it’s natural and a part of nature to have more females than males across a given landscape. I think bucks disperse too much to have large numbers in collected groups.

The majority of counties in Alabama are killing more bucks than does…..This map is showing the number of does killed per buck in each county……If you were to listen to some folks on here they would have you believe that to fix the problem all those counties that are less than one need to shoot more does to make up for all the bucks being shot.......

Probably because the first 10 days of archery season is bucks only in places. And from what I’ve been seeing they are killing some dang fine bucks.

Here’s what you need to look at with that map and ask yourself……Are these “less than one counties” overpopulated??......If the answer is no then that sustained annual doe harvest total is giving you a ceiling for the amount of bucks you can kill……If Bibb Co is killing 1700 does per year then you need to be killing less than 1700 bucks to maintain any reasonable balance…..probably far less to have really well balanced herds…….But as it is they kill 2000 bucks…….That’s at least 300 too many…… Buck to doe ratio is suffering in most places due to killing too many bucks. The doe herds and the habitat are both healthy and fine……As a matter of fact, many areas could bring the population up some …….Some of these guys are sitting in a few of the best areas of the state giving blanket advice to others who arent even remotely in the same situation……. Just look at the variance in the map.

So here’s a question for the shoot more does crowd……Sticking with the Bibb Co example with them killing 2000 bucks and 1700 does…….If you did try to balance the ratio through doe harvests like is being suggested…..Could Bibb Co handle killing another 300 does per year and sustain that long term without the overall population decreasing?? What about if we take and apply these ideas to counties like Marshall……Could Marshall handle doubling its doe harvest to try and match the bucks being killed??.........

I went four years without shooting does or a deer period on my personal place. Could be wrong, but it seemed that my overall buck age structure dropped as I got a larger population of deer. That and less bucks overall.
Since the 25th, I have removed seven does from my personal place and honestly could easily take 5-10 more. I don’t think it will cause me any harm. Plus it’s just more fun shooting them with a bow.

I think CNC doesn’t want anyone to kill any deer. We shoot to many bucks. Now we shoot to many does. I agree with Frankie that what we do on our property is what we think we need to do and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. We kill all the deer we want and we have a great time doing it. Whether it’s a doe, spike or a big ole mature buck. We celebrate them all the same.
