My situation is owning a 100 acres and not having anyone able to hunt around me for miles. Would you shoot does and increase pressure or not shoot does and keep the pressure minimal?

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Don’t shoot them. Keep pressure down. If you are only seeing does, keep the corn to them and wait for January.

That’s what I would do. Any you shoot are just gonna be replaced by the miles around you.

As long as your not killing a doe every day it won't matter. Kill a couple but space it out. I hunt on 165 acres, cousin farmed it and we would kill 12 to 15 does a year and a couple bucks. Did this for 20 years until we got old and he quit farming it. Now we kill a couple does if we want too and are very selective on bucks. No body hunts much at all around us.

I’m planning to have a “doe blow” hunt on an afternoon the 1st weekend in December. Absolutely no bucks will be shot no matter what size and no more does shot rest of season. Planing to have 4 maybe 5 stands with hunters allowed to shoot a doe, hogs, coyotes, and bobcats.

Depends!! Do I have a few good bucks on camera that I really want to kill. Do I have multiple areas available to me to be able to move around not over pressure one spot. Do I need the meat to feed my family. Do I have an overpopulation of does. Do I have very few does. I’ve always been one that if I’m gonna shoot does (usually 2 year) I try to do it the earliest in the season I can. Shoot a doe a couple times early in the season won’t bother anything.

I have 45 acres and kill maybe one a year off of it( usually a guest kills it) and maybe one off the 40 across the road. But I do have folks hunting around me

My friend Brad (who is the landowner) and I were just discussing this last week. We agreed we probably had too many does because we frequently have 20 deer sightings a sit. The problem is neither one of us care to shoot them lol. The solutions we came up with was to bring in some hired guns and put them on doe patrol. The hired guns being some kids we know.

With that many deer, it will not hurt anything to shoot a few. Not gonna help anything either. You will just have less deer.

I hunt a very small area, I haven't shot a doe in 6-7 years. As stated above, I keep the corn out and wait til Jan for a buck to show up

If you have to many does then shoot some. If you cut the population you will have a better rut.

Sounds like great fun!

I’ll prob sit at barn and drink beer and let em go at it. It’s 250 acres in bullock and I’ve seen as many as 22 does at a sit. Always see 6 or 7. I figure we take 5 or 6 out and let it rest a while that will be ok.

I have 80 acres in Marengo County . I take a doe early in the season (bow) and then have a target buck I’ll hunt. Sometimes I get him and sometimes I don’t. If I want more meat I’ll take another doe later in the season. Be reasonable and don’t try to slaughter them. My grandson and son-in-law hunt the same place. we usually take 2-4 does and a buck or maybe two.

You're not doing the world a favor shooting does. Shoot em if you want. And if you don't, don't.

I’ve got a small piece that I have been working with the last few years. Started with a pretty good age structure along with a reasonable population. My thought process was to feed more than anyone around, protect my does and that the bucks will come/stay. Each year I get more of a decline in the quality and number of bucks on my place. Got a ton of deer per acre… just not what it was. I’ve started to shoot the does this year. So far I’ve taken a deer per 25 acres and could easily bring that down to one per <10 acres. Each property is different but I know mine was better with less does.
