Trying to hunt in this club is only going to complicate things. That guy is probably just wanting to make sure that sale goes through before refunding the money. If the sale doesnt go through and he has already given refunds, he is in a pickle. I cant say I blame him. Just wait and get your money back, Contact Dean and find out who bought the 900 acres, maybe you can hook up with them and hunt that track..

To me the sale is pending and you should be able to hunt until the sale is final. You don't kick a renter out of house that just went under contract.

Something sounds fishy
This is another reason why I don't mess with hunting clubs
Id stay off that property and get with all the other hunters to get a plan for a refund

Piss on that. What if the process drags out most of the season and doesn’t close. OP would’ve missed out on most of the season and without the benefit of having his money in his pocket. Obviously, the club prez doesn’t have the money to give, but if he was a decent person, he’d find a way to get it. Bank’s make personal loans daily. This jackass needs one.

I have a feeling once you speak to Dean or whoever you are going to hear something different.
How many other folks were “cut”?
How long have you been a member?
When you paid was the agreement to hunt that 900 acres only?
If not I’d hunt. Unfortunately this doesn’t sound good

Sounds like a breach of contract to me. Does the club have provisions in the rules for this.

Do you have a copy of the club rules?

If no to either of those questions then you need to hunt until you get a FULL refund.

Your damages will be the difference in your refund and the membership dues for another comparable club.

They couldn’t afford to kick me out for no reason of my own.

Tell the head honcho that you’ll be hunting and that you’re a member until the end of turkey season. That you will not tolerate ANY harassment.

Also tell him that your attorney said we can do it the easy way or we can do it the hard way.

I had some dealings with Dean at the Thomas properties back in the 90s. He was very honest and good to work with then. I’d be giving him a call ASAP!

Your money has been spent on the lease of the land and maybe even some other things like food plot seed n fertilizer and feed even. They will not have your money , unless an agreement was struck to receive funds for reimbursement to members placed out of the club since purchase of the land by the purchaser. I know of no timber company or timber corp that refunds money and I've never heard of a land owner refunding money back either.

I don't know how much money you're out by this move your club has decided on but I'd be asking for explicit answers as to when and how much of my money I will get refunded and it needs to be in a timely fashion so you can not lose out on time taken from you to hunt the season. 900 acres purchase ain't nothing to sneeze that's a lot of dough bro. If you have a retained attorney I'd be seeking council.

My lease calls for the lessor to reimburse me if a portion of the lease is sold. And my lease also specifies the max number of of members. Given its already deer season, I doubt seriously that the guy has left over cash laying around to pay off the members he is cutting and has to wait for a refund from the lessor. I also think the lessor would cut him a break on the members for that lease year.

My club by-laws allow me to dismiss members and not refund $.

I think the person who mentioned the game warden would deem it trespassing. I think it would be worse, it would be hunting without a permit. Most lease holders don't have trespass authority, we can call law enforcement, and get a report and forward to the Timber co.

I've had mine refunded from a landowner when he sold his property, we had a good relationship though. I know a few who was reimbursed from Soterra after land was sold. They both was met at the gate by new owners, wasn't given no notice, and one had just purchased a ton of seed & fertilizer. The club i was in Alberta had it in the lease agreement that club would be reimbursed dues and any planting cost, when it sold several years back everyone was allowed to finish out the season 🙂

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

I know some other guys that lease some land from Dean and they are supposed to be contacting him on my behalf. I was hoping I’d hear something by now but I haven’t.

This would have been my 4th year in club. He would not tell me how any or who he was kicking out. I do know he just texted everyone the first of October and let in a new member.

The presidents name is Shane Griffith and vice president on rules is Jason Britnell. They are both out of Moulton.

Nope wouldn’t fly with me if the new member was still part of the club.

The president either needs to let all original members hunt on the remaining club property, or arrange to have you paid somehow. Whoever bought that 900, pass the hat from remaining members, take it out of his savings, whatever. Unless there’s something written in formal rules that you were given about being kicked out for no reason and no refund, I would just hunt the remaining club property and keep some sort of paperwork on me from this year’s club arrangements. (Print of email or texts about joining back up and a bank photo of your processed check; whatever)
