My son really loves bass fishing. I prefer to just catch fish, good eating fish especially. Joseph has been going with me sauger fishing every saturday afternoon the past three weeks. I know he would rather be bass fishing, but he hasnt complained. The first time we stopped to get bait, i bought a few big shiners, thinking he might float a big bait and catch him a good bass. Right before i paid, something said "get a few big shiners", i usually sauger fish with small shiners. He caught a big bass on one of those big shiners that day. Last saturday, i did it again. He caught a big bass on one of the big shiners and we caught 6 keeper sauger on them, probably the biggest saugers weve ever caught. This is Josephs big bass from yesterday. The Lord blessed him again and yesterday he recognised and said something about what was going on. Hes been putting my wants first and doing his best to enjoy our time together. I been trying to make sure he has a chsnce to get what he would like to have. The Lord has been blessing us both with what we and our relationship needs. Any of you who have ever had a 17yo son surely understands how precious good time together is. I praise the Lord for every minute of it. Hes mighty good to us, even in the little things.

We've been fishing up there when you're there then. It was packed last weekend with the tournaments. YouTubers and tournaments have really ruined that place. Nothing like it used to be years ago. We still love it but nothing like it used to be for sure. Nice fish buddy!

Great pic and story! Got any pics of the sauger? I've never caught one or even seen one.

Copperheads is what my son calls them. I hope he keeps hanging in there with me until he’s ready to fly solo! You got your heart where it needs to be!

Ridgelife, your boy will be big as mine before you know it. Take him fishing every chance you get and keep him around the spirit. He will be fine. The Lord will take care of him when you cant.

I vowed to never work a Saturday unless I have to or a day that he is out of school. We either fish/hunt or spend time as a family on those days. Most treasured part of my childhood was dad taking us camping and fishing.

Thanks for the sauger pics! I've caught a handful of walleye over the years, but no sauger. We must not have them at all this far south.
