How many of you will bowhunt if it is raining?

I bought an ATV to get to my hunting area, now half the fun of hunting is the ride in and out.

I will, but I don't like it. I really limit my shots and get real picky when it is raining. Blood trailing is so difficult.

I got set ups for rain or shine. Deer move good after a big rain.

I wouldn't bowhunt on the Diamond Springs Ranch in Kansas in the rain, much less for a scrawny, ol Alabama deer.

Isn't hard to follow a blood trail that has been washed away by the rain?

I hunt mostly hardwood forest areas, the blood won't last 10 minutes on top of the leaves, even in a light rain. I know you might be able to follow the turned up leaves if the deer is running or staggering away but if you get a faint blood trail and the deer just wanders off your chances of finding the deer are slim. It just doesn't seem worth the risk to me.

Rain is in the N Bama forecast for Monday morning, if it is still there Sunday night I'll go to work Monday and hope Tuesday's weather is better.

Am I the only one that feels this way about bowhunting in the rain?

If it ain't a downpour and I have my raingear, sure I'll bowhunt in the rain.........especially if you have a good chance it will quit. You are then already in the woods. wink

No, I do too. I don't bowhunt in the rain. I will go to the woods close to the end of good rain, hoping to be in the tree by the time it stops though.

I was hunting in Ga. last week and stuck a small buck during a monsoon. I shot him through low through both shoulders. I was in S.E. GA so it was like a Gallberry/Palmetto bush jungle while trying to find the deer. We never found him. Believe it or not we found some blood and it was thick but played out when he hit 1" deep water. I did find a rack from a buck shot last year that would go close to 120"

I can see where the risk is on trailing blood in the rain from losing a deer but then again i have never had a deer run far with a bow.

Auight there big boy. I've hit some where I'z post to and they ran 100 yards or more before piling up. 100 yards in a rain is a long hard trail.

Gun or bow, I aint sitting in the rain for a dang deer ever again.

Now nestled in a shooting house with my gun is some of the beat napping( I mean hunting )I have done.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.
