I have on numerous brands, ammo and choke brands. Just have to pattern em and see what they like. 2 3/4 would pattern better for me than most 3” would. I killed a racked buck at 72 yards with a 2 3/4 Remington 000 buck, had two pellets to hit him behind his shoulder, went 30 yards and piled up. Killed a pile of em at 40-50 yards, with a turkey choke. I mean they’d fold up like a dove. I know alot of guys claim they’ve killed em past 50 with number 1 buck and stuff. But I never had no luck with em. I was always a 00 and 000 believer. I liked for em to fold up, the tighter the pattern the better for me.

Long as it’s lead you’ll be fine.

My SBE 2 throws a tight pattern through a jelly head choke (.660) only reason I don't hunt with it with that choke is because it shoots a foot high for some reason. It will put all 18 00s into 10-11" @ 40 yards.

Your patterning will tell you if it's too tight. If it throws an even, tight pattern, you are OK. If it scatters them, it's too tight. You need to pattern it either way. Hunting with buckshot in a gun you haven't patterned is the same as hunting with a rifle that's not sighted in.

Shot some through a comp n choke xxx full. It shot great. All 15 00 pellets in 10" circle at 40. However, It must have ruined the choke. Now it scatters a 5' pattern at same distance.

That’s where I was kinda leaning with my question. Shooting buckshot out of the choke I turkey hunt with has me kinda nervous.. he may have to shoot the ol single shot and save the worry bc he probably won’t get bit one shot anyhow…

I have killed a few with regular full and 000 buck but when I went to a modified tube in my 12 ga , I never looked back. Patterns were a LLT better and I always thought it was because the shot didn't get deformed going through the tighter choke. Good luck to the little man, enjoy the times with him in the woods. They grow up way too quickly.

Remember: It aint what you shoot...it's how you shoot it.

If federal makes a flight control 20ga, I’d say shoot that through a regular modified. If your turkey choke is rated for TSS, it should shoot lead #1s just fine in a 20ga. As for ‘best’ pattern, that’d take some experimenting. I keep a 20ga ‘rabbit’ gun at the camp and some 20ga #1s with an SRM Terror duck tube for kids to shoot in a pinch. I’d use it with no reservations.

It’s an Indian creek .555 and yea it has handled TSS Hal’s load fine… and the 20ga is #1’s
I feel like if the deer was within 15yds he could kill it with the turkey loads the way they pattern…

I patterned a few chokes today. That being said the best one was one I had that I couldn’t find until after I returned from buying another.. Jeb’s high voltage.580 Remington 20ga for sale…
