really hard to do anything with free range deer... you kill "x" number and 4 more take its place. its really really hard when your land boarders 3 sides of public.. we got a rule on our lease that we have to kill 4.5 or older and 8 or bigger.. but those deer that are not quite to the qualifications slip off on the wma then they get shot...
Turkey’s tell you when they want to die not lawmakers.

I don't know but in 30 yrs we have shot 30 does a yr to 0 does a yr for several consecutive seasons during different attempts to make a change and basically it does not matter, the only thing we noticed the several yrs we shot 30 was we saw fewer deer. Size and weight did not increase # of bucks did not increase, rut activity did not increase. So now we just shoot one if we want and don't worry about it. ^^^This^^^

We see all of the above on properties we manage with selective doe harvest based on the data we have. If you can improve habitat and correct the sex ratio all of those things happen as a result. It takes a lot of land, because neighbors affect what you’re doing, but I’ve seen it work very well.

Bring the kids and take some does home with you

It’s most likely due to a neighbor or neighbors around you who probably have a lot of good fawning habitat and good fawn recruitment rates……They probably arent shooting any does or maybe only a few and they have allowed their property or properties to basically max out the doe population…..So therefore they are basically spilling does outward annually looking for gaps in the landscape to fill in……If you take out 30 then you’ve just opened up holes for them. As it is now you’ve basically joined whoever those other folks are in doing the same thing….. Any extra does you produce are just doing the same thing those were now and are being pressured off to somewhere else. You’ve maxed out the number of does the fawning cover and/or food resources will support without social conflict occurring……
