Been in that area many times. A bunch of steep little hollows. With the rain and leaves falling it gets really slick in those areas with rock and wet leaves on the ground. Fell more than once and I can see how someone could easily get injured and not be able to make it back out. Hope the find him soon. I learned a few years ago that I’m not as young as I once was and that place can get to you even if you’re in decent physical shape. I never go over there alone any longer. At 50+, it’s just not a good idea.

48 news Huntsville reporting still missing. Prayers sent for safe return and safety for all involved in the search. This most likely won’t end on a good note With the woods being wet and temps in the upper 30’s This guy is in serious trouble I used to make sure I carried a zippo lighter with me and have gotten out of the habit….time to start back

I always have the minimum gear to survive a night when I'm off trail in Bankhead. Hope the guy has plenty of hunter orange on. That will help search teams greatly.

Used to turkey hunt over there years ago. If not careful you can get lost real easy.

Every local rescue squad needs to be trying to obtain a thermal drone. This seems like an invaluable tool for these types of situations. I would think they have people there with drones. They can make a real difference for sure.

I will be up there tomorrow and the other hunters who I know that hunt it every weekend are aware as well. Only a few of us hunt the area his car was found, I dont. Last word I heard last night was they had a chopper with thermals looking. Had a distant family member go missing up there once and we found him day 3. I pray he just got turned around and had a cold night and a story to tell. I cant confirm but I heard his stand was still in his car.

Where exactly was his car found? I don’t Facebook and have heard 2 locations According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, authorities believe the male hunter, Daniel Whitaker,70, is in the area of Pine Torch Church in the Bankhead National Forest.
