Adult men of the house. I discovered a challenge you cannot win. If you can find the magic way to win this one, please inform all of us.

Convince your family to actually accept that the water that comes out of the refrigerator is the same water that goes through any bathroom sink in the house.
Get a glass water from the bathroom, let them see you do it, and drink it in front of them.
Anytime, they ask for any amount of water, go get it for them from the bathroom and watch their reactions.

I discovered this because of the water filter in the fridge. It timed out, and for whatever we messed around for a month or two without getting a new one. Eventually, the wife and kids started having fits and complaining simply because they like the ritual of the the fridge water dispenser. Its amazing. I always looked at it as another damn thing to break and space I could use better for the freezer.

I removed the water filter on our farmhouse kitchen fridge and reset the light. When the light turns red and says it is time to put new filter in I just reset without installing a new filter.

I drink more out of the outside faucet because it’s water from the well. About 10yrs ago we got “city” water and the chlorine is so strong that I we refuse to drink it. Our fridge has a pitcher inside the door that auto fills and is double filtered. We have good water to drink.

Same here. Mine comes from a deep well, don’t want it filtered.

If you have stank tap water then yes. But around here our water is pretty good as is.

My wife and daughter know it's the same water. No difference. The refrigerator filter doesn't do squat and most people never change the filter anyway. When we moved into this home, we noted a bad smell around the refrigerator. Thought maybe was food gone bad or a mouse dead under it. After a thorough examination, we removed the filter. And sludge was hanging out of it. Swamp water. We changed that filter, flushed, changed again. But wife ultimately said new refrigerator. I didn't like the old one anyway, so we replaced. We use it for ice only. No dispenser. She's very paranoid about the chemicals in water. Where I'm at you can smell it sometimes. She wanted a reverse osmosis filter system and I installed one. Water tastes better. We use it for drinking water and for cooking anything that water affects.

I've not pointed out the ice from the freezer isn't the same. But I did notice she keeps a small tray of ice from the big filter. She's not dumb.

I'll drink straight from the tap. I don't care.

So the wife/kids like filtered water better than straight tap? I guess I'm missing something or read your post wrong Skinny. I've had a few different style filters over the years and even the worst one was better than tap.

Me the little on and the wife drink straight from every sink. The older kids who have moved out nothing but bottled water. Drives me crazy.

The issue is like Fatty said. The filter has not worked in a while, so it has been doing nothing for a while, but the wife and kids still insist that there is a difference between the unfiltered fridge and unfiltered sink water.

Chlorine is issue with us especially when the city does a heavy chlorine flush for 2 weeks in summer. They got written up for some bacteria and have to. Normally I just use tap for coffee each morning which has sparked a similar argument to yours Skinny. No way I’m filtering water for coffee. rofl

Placebo effect?

Even if they know the filter is not in there or doesn't work, their minds still say that water is the better choice. Plus nobody takes a dump in the kitchen most of the time like they do in the bathroom.

I brush my teeth with the water in the bathroom, but will 100% get my drinking water from the kitchen. I only get the ice from the fridge and fill my cup up with the water from the tap with the extra filter installed under the sink. We have good well water, too.

I am aware it doesn't make sense and I might would just brush my teeth in the kitchen if I didn't think it was more gross to spit in the kitchen sink. crazy

I buy purified water to make my coffee.

Drink filtered or bottled water.

If a guest at your house requests water, just ask them if they prefer kitchen or bathroom flavor.

Yeh, but I do not want to open up the conversation about pooping in the kitchen to my guests. I am a polite person. laugh What should I do?

Just hang a sign above the cabinets “Please don’t poop in the kitchen”. Then you don’t have to have a conversation about it at all. Plus your guests probably won’t stay long.

Dang, this a tough problem. Maybe we should get the government involved?
