Knocking around the idea of purchasing a 1911.
I know that I want Government length, some modern features like Novaks and a mid’ish tier price range.

Stumbled onto the Colt Limited Edition last night which would be about $1,200ish
https://charliescustomclones.com/colt-1911-government-classic-limited-edition-45-auto-pistol/
Does anyone here have any experience with this particular model?
But I’ve also seen some have some QC concerns on this modern era of Colts.

What would be some other good options in the $1,000-2,000 price range.

Dan Wesson can be had in that price range.

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

Sig makes a fine 1911 in that price range.

Another thought is holding out for a used gun from one of the better custom shops. I have seen Les Baer and Wilson Combat guns that were really nice sell for $2000 or less.

My wife bought me a stainless Kimber for Christmas last year not my pick but it's very accurate and I didn't have to do anything to the trigger.

Exactly what I was looking at Shaw. PSA has a lot of them discounted at the moment.

I've got a stainless Springfield Garrison and a new Gov't Model Colt. The Springfield is twice the pistol at the same price point essentially. I had to have the Colt for the name, but it's nothing like the Colt's of yesteryears.

For a pistol that will actually get used.... I still like a Government Model. Can't stand to carry a 1911 Battle Field Barbie edition. I think people mostly use those to look at themselves in the mirror with.

The issue here is the $1200. Pretty pricey you can get a nice Colt for that money at any gun show.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Agreed. You can get a bare bones model, or a battle field Barbie version. I can appreciate the nostalgia, but I’ll take a no frills 1911 with Novak style sights, beavertail grip safety, extended safety lever, and a better trigger anyday. I don’t need ambi safety, flared magazine wells, optics mounts, etc. The Garrison checked all the boxes for me, and it’s now the pistol I keep in my truck everyday. That’s the beauty of a 1911. You can pretty much get whatever you want these days. I’ve got a 1944 Remington Rand, a new Colt Government 1911, and the Springfield. But you can go as wild as you want. For the money a Springfield is about as solid of a 1911 as you can get IMHO. Only upgrade I want on my Garrison is tritium sights.

You should sweet talk BCLC out of one of his.

I’d skip Springfield, Kimber, Colt & Sig for the $ you are willing to pay.

Dan Wesson would be a wise choice.

I'd like to make a few suggestions based on bullseye pistol shooting experience. Some folks have already mentioned some good choices. I love Colts, always have, based on growing up with them, but the few that I have bought (for fun) in recent years have been all over the road quality-wise. That Gold Cup that is linked above is a very good price, but I would wonder what I was getting. If you had to have a Colt, I'd get an older one.

For years, for competition, it was recommended to buy a Springfield Armory Range Officer and get a trigger job and install a custom barrel bushing (like from EGW, custom for your present barrel) or fit a Kart barrel and bushing. That was an effective way of getting a competition-ready pistol at a more affordable price as opposed to a custom build by a gunsmith or one of the semi-custom commercial builders. I have one that I dropped a trigger into and put in a Kart EZ fit barrel/bushing. It shoots very well, and is a nicely-made pistol. I would say the quality easily tops most of my Colts. As with most great things, they quit making them, but I am sure you could find one fairly easily.

I have a buddy that shoots next to me at our monthly match who has a Dan Wesson Pointman. It is a very well built 1911. He didn't do much at all to it to get it ready for competition. He has nothing but praise for it.

I will say that I moved to a Les Baer Premiere II for service pistol competition. I needed a backup 1911 for the SARO, but ended up moving the Baer to primary. I have read a lot about Baers, some good, some bad, and Les has a reputation for sometimes being prickly to deal with. I bought the Baer from a trusted rifle and pistol competition vendor that assured me I would like the pistol, which was built to their specs, and needed no upgrades for competition. It has been trouble-free and I have really enjoyed shooting it. I have won several competitions this year with it.

But, if I had up to $2K allocated to drop on a 1911 right now, I would likely pick up a Dan Wesson.
