I'm just curious as to how many of you hunt deer within the city limits with bow and arrow. I personally have trail cam pics of multiple big bucks in Tuscaloosa that are within 200yds of a Wendys and McDonalds. I received written permission to hunt 7 acres of bow hunting heaven smack dab in the middle of T-Town. What about you? Have you all found honey holes like this? I have a friend who lives in Metro Birmingham and he showed me a jaw dropping pic of three bucks one was a very wide, tall, long tined sway back sad daddy 8 point, another geriatric buck with 10 pts and a drop tine, and just an average 125inch(?) 8pt. Those city deer get big and stupid.

I didn't used to but for some reason I feel like my truck might break down close to Wendy's and McDonalds in Tuscaloosa next week. smile
I have seen a lot of articles in magazines about people that do it. I am in the process of getting permission to hunt along the Cahaba in Inverness. A guy bought a VERY large house there in the middle of 40 unincorporated acres and his wife is upset about the deer eating all the shrubs around their house. I think they are going to let me and my boy bow hunt to help save them some money. Tough assignment.

I wouldn't consider them to be stupid. They are definitely use to humans, and the smell associated with them. They definitely know when those smells are where they normally are and when they've invaded their turf.

I have a little surburbian jungle or two that I can hunt around here but it's awfully hard to access them without being noticed.

I don't think I'd call those Liberty Park deer stupid......they react a lil different to hunters than joggers.

Hey Boog, I'm from Tuscaloosa, and I seem remember them passing an ordinance by city council a few years ago making it illegal to shoot a bow and arrow within city limits.

Not to be a buzzkill, but you may want to check on this, especially since your 8 pt. may dart into traffic after you stick him.

I've hunted city deer before, but never had any luck. I did, however, kill a full-grown bobcat once with a bow while hunting within the city limits.

I have a few acres I bow hunt within the city limits where I live. I have two bucks on the wall from the same 15 acres and have killed several bucks that were not mountable. Those deer are very very sharp. They smell humans everyday, but you make a scent mistake inside that acreage and they will freak out and go nocturnal in a heartbeat. I killed an 8 pt last year and could look over my shoulder and see the youth soccer games about 700 yards away. Had 2 ladies walking and riding bikes with kids come by behind me talking 15 min before I killed the deer. Must be careful on shooting angles and which direction you shoot your bow and the wind must be perfect or the game is over.

Our place twenty years ago was a farm in Montgomery County south of the city of Montgomery. Now it's a farm in the city limits of Montgomery. So yes I hunt in the city limits and the deer don't seem to know that. They are still just as sharpe as they were back then.

Remington 270, I am right on the county line that cuts through the "city". I just call it the city because I can place an order at Wendy's from my treestand. I am on the county side of the line of course. My stand placement is no where near a road. My stands have been placed along drainages. Since the tornado I believe we will see a big increase in the deer population on the Holt side of Tuscaloosa. The area around there that was in the path is thick and I haven't seen houses popping back up. I saw a decent 6pt. chase a doe across Crescent Ridge road last year by Holt Elementary.

When I said, "EEEEEAAAAASSY" it was meant for swamper. As far as the "city" deer being stupid, it's all in the approach. They look for things out of the ordinary. I think they rely more on their ears and eyes than they do with their nose in the "city". Every piece of land has a rythm to it. If we do something to upset the rythm you stand the chance of putting them on high alert. I have noticed that certain birds become more vocal when I am walking around close to where the deer eat their acorns.

Been playing this game with the city limit deer for a long time. They are smart as hell and are already night walkers even before you pressure them. On one of my leases they wait until pitch and suck up the accorns out of yards in the adjoining neighborhood. Rainy nasty days are when you have to slide one through their side. They know humans are not out making racket and stomping around the area when the rain is falling. Rutting deer in the city are not easy either. I have much higher success later in late in the year when our deer are back in bachelor groups on the food. They are far far from stupid!!!

Go in a patch of woods REAL early before they head on back to the bedding areas. 2-3 hours before daylight.
