Y'all got rain but your patchy thin looking plots that resulted from planitng in a drought are going to look like crap the rest of the season.

My plots.... look like a hay field. I planted ahead of a rain 2 weeks ago and so far have gotten rain about 2x per week since. Plots are carpet green with young tender growth.

Glad my neighbor also planted early. He'll be wondering again this season why his plots aren't attracting deer and by February will look worse. He'll give up hunting about the time it's getting good.

Reality.

Mine looked great after the 2 inches we got a couple weeks ago. And I planted early. Eat bags.

BPI, that looks great. Are you not considering reducing a few of those mouths? Also, is that frost yellowed kudzu in the background?

We usually take a couple of does out a year. This frame is only showing about 20% of this food plot. There were about this many more down the plot to the left of the frame which had 5 or 6 young bucks in it. And yeah that's kudzu. I hate that stuff.

^^ nice - good looking plot

Like the way you got the house backed off the field. I would think that would allow u to possibly leave without being seen making it like u didn't even hunt if u hunted the wind right!! Lot of times the land does not allow u to set stand back off the field

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self

Looks good, I planted later than usual missing the rain from the first storm. Mine are finally coming around. I fertilized last week and will wait another week or so to do it again

Think its too late to fertilize? Was contemplating it this weekend with the rain coming in on Monday and Tuesday, and temps out of the freezing rain the remainder of the week. We planted early october, but didnt have time to get fertilizer in the ground when we planted.

Right now would be a great time. Try to work it in before the next rain.

Here's the only pic I have of any of our plots; I would have made some more but I didn't realize there was a contest going on. smile
[Linked Image]

We planted on September 28 in the dust, using a mix of crimson clover, arrowleaf clover, and elbon rye. The land was prepared in the old fashioned way with a tractor, and the seed and fertilizer was lightly covered. As always, the seed just laid there until it rained and then it immediately came up and provided grazing within a few days of the rain. The plots all look great now and will provide deer and turkeys feed until spring. I've done it this way for decades. I guess it would be better to wait until just before a rain and plant then, but I have a life outside of deer hunting and would rather put the seed in the ground when we have a chance and let it be there when it finally does rain. I don't want to make the timing of planting deer plots priority one in my life. smile

If there is ever a year when it doesn't work, the deer will just have to get out and scrap for a living like everything else. I could have followed the advice in this thread and waited for it to rain, but then my grandson wouldn't have gotten his first deer.

Reality smile

Best pic so far PCP.

Re fertilized my fields today. The rain from the past 2 days helped a lot already, but this should do it for the rest of the year.
