Had 4 coyotes cruise through, so had to do something about that. Two less fawn/turkey killers now

Set up in a shooting house on a power line in Bibb County. Beautiful morning, just a little too foggy at the moment. Already seen 5 does. 2 we’re about 350 yards and it was a little early for me to attempt a shot. The other 3 were within 100 yards, but the biggest probably weighed 75#. Planning on doing an all day sit.

Just had a small bachelor group of rack bucks come through.

Managed to get a shot at a nice 8 pt I’ve seen several times on my cameras. Beautiful clear still cold morning. Don’t get too many opening days like this one. Congrats to all the killers out there.

Saw a bobcat and shot a big doe just before I climbed down. Good morning.

Hunted in the NF this morning with my Son-in-law trying to get him his first deer. I saw three but he saw zero. Taking a nap and then climbing in wood boxes on private afterwards.

We were hoping the first grandchild was going to be released from the NICU today, so sat this one out.

Spent a good bit of time over the offseason setting up a long range gun. Decided to take it this morning and try to shoot one way off. Shot a big nanny at 742yds, DRT. The other deer didn’t even know what had happened. Saw another 10 or so over the next hour and a mature deer I’ve had on cam stepped out. He’s got a stout body, just poor antlers for his age. 650ish yds on him, DRT. This long range stuff is addicting.

The field was full of deer at 2:30 when I checked the camera. So I waited until they wandered off and I’m waiting for them to come back. Can’t believe how good the fields look with what little rain we’ve had. Congratulations to those that have already had success.

6 year old daughter is munchin away at the loudest Chex mix I’ve ever heard, but she “packed enough for dad” so I’ll let it slide. Hoping to see something, just being out here with her is enough. She BEGGED to go today, she really is all about it. It’s going to be a fun season.

So. My son and I were hunting and he took his first shot at a deer. Sadly, It was a clean miss. My wife messaged and asked if we shot, i told her what happened. She then told me there was a huge buck at the cabin. Naturally, i was like yeah right. She then send me this.

It’s a Springfield waypoint 2020 in 7prc. 24” barrel, apa lil bastard brake, leupold mark5hd on top.

It’s been a pain to find a load for this gun, lots of 3/4 to 1.5moa results. Finally found one that would shoot, pushing 175g Berger elite hunters at 3105fps. Now, it’s consistently 1/4 to 1/2 moa at 600yds.

That’s some fine shooting, no way I could do that no matter how well the gun is

Saw 1 spike and 9 does this morning. Saw 3 does this afternoon and dropped the largest one at the processor this evening. Wind was weird, but a nice day in Jackson county.

Dropped a doe for some sausage probably wait a couple weeks to do another. These pine goats get spensive. Usually have a decent buck show later so gonna pace a little.
