How many deer have you lost bow hunting? Why do people say that a quartering away shot is a better shot to take than a broad side shot? Shot a doe this morning quartering away from me and caught the opposing shoulder. She ran over 100yds with my arrow still in her, I trailed her about 300 yds but the blood trail dried up at the end where she crossed a dirt road so really peeved at this point. I've played the scene over in my head a dozen times and the shot looked good, it just caught that opposing shoulder.

That’s possible but it ran off dragging its right front leg which was the opposing shoulder. The arrow looks to have at least penetrated 8-9”.

I checked again but it’s the same thing as before, she crossed a dirt road leaving no blood trail onto a neighbors property and just like the last year and a half he won’t return calls or respond to voicemails. Unfortunately it’s time to get ready for work, in the 9 yrs that I’ve been bow hunting this is the second deer that I’ve lost, just irks me to no end.

I once shot a deer with a 308 that was slightly quartered towards me, bullet entered just behind the right shoulder deflected off a rib and exited out the opposite hind quarter and stuck into the tree behind the deer. If a bullet can do what that then an arrow could as well, or the shot may not have been as spot on as it looked. It sucks and I don’t like losing any animal but lesson learned; I’ll stick with a broad side shot.
