What would that be & where to get it? I’ve had several large mounds pop up the last couple days & would love to put a small dent in the population while they are active.

All the good stuff they banned . Seems that stuff now just moves them around . Just be sure you read the directions some you wet some you don't some you put on the mound some you put around the mound .

Those pellets that smell like chicken litter works good. For something that isn't so stankey Bifen does the job

Permethrin is what I used on fire ant hills. Same as I use on mosquitos and roaches. On a cold morning, they will be up close to the top of the hill looking for warmth. Just poke a hole in the top and when they come boiling out spray them down good. They will die and when their buddies come to remove them, they die too. I have done a bunch this way and the hill dies.

I've started using Bifen mostly because it can be used indoor also for normal home insect control at a lower dose. I bought a cheap HF sprayer and just keep it ready to go at all times. See a mound...spray a mound.

I buy the cheap stuff at Walmart and spread around the house once a month. Seems to work good enough. When I find an ant hill I will pour permethrin in it I’ll poke a hole down in it ad far as I can and fill it up with martins and let it soak in real good. If I have any ants I don’t know about them.

I use Bifen XTS and soak the mound with a sprayer. The fire ants come up and die instantly. Kills the whole mound and they don't move a few feet away and start again.

That is actually the stuff I use. The extinguish is the broadcast bait and surrender is mound killer. They used to sell it and the surrender together and called it the Texas Two step.

I started doing this a number of years back and haven’t had a single fire-ant mound since.

In the early Spring I buy a couple of bags of whatever fire-ant killer granules that are on sale at Lowe’s and I broadcast spread (handheld spreader) them all over my yard 2/3-acre. They either die or move to the neighbor’s yard.

x3. I put down 24 pallets of Emerald Zoysia in my yard mid October. Within 10 days there were ant mounds galore. I went and sprinkled some of that Ortho on all those mounds then 3 days later kicked all the mounds down. At that point I didnt see an ant and havent had a fresh mound pop up since.

I’ve had good luck with Amdro for fire ants and surprisingly carpenter ants. Found a big line of carpenter ants coming out of a neighbor’s dying water oak, sprinkled some Amdro on the base of the tree and never saw any coming out of there again. They cut the tree down the next year and there weren’t any inside of it.

Grits used to work. No telling with these modern day ants.
