Cameras and corn are making lots of people think they are really great deer hunters. Kind of reminds me of when the spinning wing duck decoys came out and people that couldn’t kill a duck on their own suddenly became the greatest duck hunters ever. What does the aldeer brain trust have to say about this. I don’t post much but love to read my news here

My corn camera scenario is probably different than you are taking about.

When I used to do the corn camera thing, I had a process. This process was mainly geared at clubs due to the random nature of other member and pressure.

I’d grid off the property that I was hunting into 100 acre sections, and then place a camera with corn within that area where I thought I had the best chance to locate a mature buck. Mainly transitions. The more that came together, the better.

Those cams would only be in said areas for 6-7dys. I was only interested if I had a shooter on days 1-3. This meant “to me”, that this particular buck lived or frequented this area often and wasn’t brought in by feed. After that amount of days, the data didn't mean much. However if there was a really good buck that showed up on days 4-7, then I’d triangulate cams with a little feed in the direction that he was coming from. In hopes to get him in those 1-3dy timeline. Sometimes this worked.

Each week I’d move all my cams to new areas in order to locate more/better deer in effort to build a “hitlist”. Once the hitlist was established, I’d go back in those areas, with corn, for one more week of data closer to season to verify that particular deer was still there. If so, then I’d look into topos, aerials and boots on the ground to figure out how to kill said deer.

This process worked for me every year on taking multiple mature deer in a pressured environment. Corn and cameras.

I’m just saying in general anyone can go buy a camera and feeder and watch the camera and go shoot a deer. For years people in semi rural areas have put corn out underneath a dusk to dawn light and killed deer, but now I think it’s gone to another level

I just like the pictures, i reckon. Ive about quit actual hunting. I fill up feeders and plant food plots. Its more like im trying to take care of a bunch of deer instead of killing them. Weird turn of events. I will hunt the rut. I might or might not kill a deer. I passed a pretty good one last year, jyst didnt feel like fooling with it.

I move most of my cameras to roads - all deer do not love cameras

My best field has no camera - hav it that way to reduce any kind of stress - i hav pics of matures seeing cam - then start running in pic from cam and they aint been back. Several of my other fields and spots no camera either

Everybody's deer don't act same as everybody else's either

All my cams need to be in roads and only reason i keep one at buck field and i hav tested this many times - they eat the crap out of corn or way more corn when cam is gone - hav to feed lot more

Have a good time and hunt in any way that’s legal
If you don’t like how someone else does it then don’t do it that way but leave them alone

Guy says “I’m not hunting over corn I’m a real hunter!” and then climbs up into his shooting house with heater and windows overlooking a 3 acre food plot.

Makes sense.

Sometimes hunting around corn and highly pressured deer will give you an understanding how deer really act. I use to have a small plot and corn about 150 yards off a road travelled by just a few people, mainly during hunting season. Before the people travelling started deer could be seen almost daily in the area, then when the people began travelling the deer movement slowed. My stand was about 15 feet up three grouped together liveoaks on the backside of the plot away from the road. One day a very old mature lone doe came out, standing in the plot, eating on the corn. She was the largest doe I ever seen in years of hunting. For about 10 minutes I watched her, from the back side never taking her eyes off the road. It was kind of funny cause she just knew I should be in front of her and I was on the back side. She then moved on and I never seen that deer again. In some areas just because corn is available doesn't mean it is the best place to be if there is a lot of pressure or human scent in the area.

What if you actually kill some of the bucks you get on camera what does that mean? I bet you have been looking at pics of bucks other folks have on camera haven't you....

Reading sign , learning the terra , patterning deer in the woods is a dying art. My .02, if corn and cameras are ever outlawed , it's gonna be mighty long seasons for some I'm afraid.

I was killing before corn and i will kill after - but getting old has killed the i will get 30 feet up a tree to beat the wind

Biggest bonus to not feed is $$$. Sometimes i get tired of the corn and the methods - but i adapt to the laws and there was always rebels/outlaws that fed all time. Glad we pissed on that
