Just looking for recommendations on a hunting pack to pack out deer. I have found some western packs but they are $$$ or look like they are bear bones frame packs to haul out an elk leg quarter. I’m looking for something that is dual purpose. Small enough to carry in on every hunt but big enough to handle the meat. Anyone have experience with this or a name of of a pack you use and like?

Something like this is what I was thinking. Just not sure if it would be big enough?

That would be terrible to haul any weight in.

Yep. You want one with a frame.

There are a lot of great pack companies out there, I really like Mystery Ranch. Pop up 30, sawtooth 45 or metcalf 50 would all serve your purpose well. Spending money on a good backpack is like spending money n a good scope, many find it hard to justify the cost but I don't know anyone who regrets buying a good quality backpack. MR is running a 25% off cyber Monday sale, so you could get any of those packs in the $300-$400 range.

You can get a Mystery Ranch Pop Up 30 for $225 after the 25% discount. I’ve got an older Pop Up 28 and used it to help N2TRKYS haul his elk out a few years back. Would be perfect for a whitetail. I’m using it now so I’ve got plenty of room to take stuff in for all day sits. I don’t have any plans to pack a deer out here in Bama.

I went the Kifaru route and don’t regret it at all. I’ve packed a couple elk and deer out with it. I can pack a whole broke down mule deer and whitetail with it. I only pack an elk hindquarter and front shoulder at one, though. That pack will haul more than I can.

This is a great pack and well worth the money but the price they're promoting on their site already has the 25% off taken into account (regular price is $399) so its currently $299.25 today. totally worth it, just don't want to give the OP false hope on a smoking deal that doesn't exist.

Just save yourself the trouble and spend the right money on the right pack is my advice, I have tried to customize so many cheap packs over the years and I still havent quite found one I like.

The only one that came close was a badlands backpack I bought from Coosa several years back

Alpz Outdoors standard frame pack. It’s not fancy but gets the job done for around $200. Still working after multiple backpacking hunts out west. 2 elk and a couple deer with no issues.

I have a horn hunter g3 pack that is awesome for packing out deer and bag has several pockets and hangs in tree well. Downside is it’s heavier and bulky. For shorter distance pack outs I caught myself just carrying in the bag and going out to get the pack frame if I killed. This year I switched over to the MR pop up 40. Nice bag that is more compact for days when you don’t kill and seems to be built well. More comfy to carry than the horn hunter. Only downside to me so far is lack of organizing pockets. I’ll have to use some molle attachments or do some sewing. Packed out a buck a couple weeks ago and bag did fine. It does have some fiddle factor which I don’t like but all of these bags do.
