After much research and deliberation , I’ve decided to order a Savage 110 chambered in 280 Ackley Improved. It has a 22in barrel and a 1 in 9:twist. I’ve been looking at many different loads for this but decided to run 140 grain Accubonds Anyone out there have any recipes on a similar platform? Thanks in advance!

Nosler has data for it online.

If you haven’t already bought it, get the 7-08 instead.

I’ve seen the published data from Nosler. I have a 7-08 and love the 7 mm bullet. I’m just looking to get similar velocities of the 7 mag without the recoil and amount of powder.

Awesome! If I had a 7-08, I would step up to a 160 grain bullet in the 280AI. Actually, I am doing that. Lol. I shoot 140 grain ABs in my 7-08 and 160 grain ABs in my 7 SAUM.

I think a heavier bullet would be better suited to the 280 also. I shoot 160 class bullets if I'm shooting lead and 145 LRX for monometal. Now that Barnes has released the 152 LRX specifically for the 280AI I'm going to give it a try.

I’ll have to look into those thanks. What type of powder do you plan to use with yours?

My best results with the 145 LRX (my primary load) was with IMR 4350 and H4831SC, accuracy and speed were almost identical, I ended up going with the Hogdon because it’s been easier to find, and is likely a little more temp stable.

I have a bunch of mag Pro, Vargey, and W760. I’m gonna try those first and then probably try that 4831sc.

I'd go 760 first then 4831.

Unless you’re gonna shoot throughout the year, temp stability is vastly overrated. I develop my loads in the winter and never have seen any issues whatsoever.

MagPro should give you high velocity.

H4831 is always a good start with the 280, improved or not.

H4831sc and n550 with 150s and 160s have been the best combos I've found.

+1 for H4831sc. It made my 280 Ackley come alive with 140 and 150 Nosler Partitions And Accubonds. I have also got a pile of 280 Ackley brass if you need it.
