For those if you who go back and put NH4NO3 on your plots, when do you put it out? Gonna try it this season.

We usually apply it mid to late December. After not planting until November, we may try to skip it altogether this year. In years where we plant early October, it’s usually mid December.

Do yall actually see a difference worth the money or does it just look better? Its not cheap and my deer still hit the fields good in January without it is why I ask

It’s made our plots jump. I have small plots with heavy browsing and they are about exhausted by the beginning of January if they don’t get that boost of extra nitrogen.
But then I’m getting by with one or two bags total.

Right before a guaranteed rain. This the time to do it, if your sure of rain.

We do it every year in mid-December. It makes a noticeable difference and our plots withstand the cold better imo. A few years ago when we had the hard freeze for a week our plots never browned at all. If you can do it, I would definitely recommend it. I couldn’t tell you if it makes a difference versus not doing it because we’ve always done it. It’s best right before a rain, like mentioned above, but if you can’t time it perfect, just make sure the dew has burned off before doing it so it doesn’t stick to your grass/grain when throwing it. If it can fall to the ground you should be ok.

I did mine Tuesday of last week before the rain and my fields have exploded. In my experience it 100% makes a difference every year that I've done it

I have used 33-0-0 at 150-200lbs per acre in the past with good results. Going to knock out three fields on Sunday. Always seems to help on my place.

Now. We are doing ours this weekend ahead of next weeks rain. Days are getting shorter with less sunlight (and temps) for growing.

You can still get 33-0-0 at most feed stores. Usually a mix of Ammonium Sulfate and Urea.

Hard to say, but I think it helps it spring back after hard freezes.

Rain is the last thing you want to water it down. I want warm humid conditions and let the dew leach it in being the roots are only a inch or two deep. I've never understood why people wanted rain on something that melts faster than ice cream and is only good for a month or so. Guess the south Alabama sod farmers I learned from are stupid.

I think it does also. Few days after that week long , single digit super hard freeze year before last, mine looked like nothing ever happened . Many folks lost theirs.

Well urea is highly volatile and you can lose up to 60% of until you get a significant rainfall to get it into the soil profile. That loss is worse when it is humid. Now you can treat the urea with a stabilizer but it buys it time for you to get a significant rainfall to get it in the ground. A dew is not going to push it into the grounds enough.

I bought a brand I'd never used for my plots and had a few spots on my yard I used it on . I watched it very closely , it took two good rains for all of it to dissolve . I sure didn't act like the stuff from the Co-op I normally use. It did green up and accelerate growth once it got into the ground. Dew wouldn't dissolve this stuff.

Temps play a big role in volatility. Was thinking that stabilizers are not necessary unless above 85 degrees.

I hit all my fields today in the pouring rain. It was melted down in the dirt or mud an hr or so after I spread it

I was planning on hitting my fields tomorrow, but we got 5" rain this week and plots are way too wet for tractor. Maybe next week.

I have been doing it for years and it works wonders on greening up your plots. Really draws the does in for the rut. I like to put it out mid Dec at 100 lbs/acre after a rain on wet ground (so it will melt) with a few days of warm weather in the forecast. You will see some results in a week but can really see it in 2 weeks, I think the soil temp needs to be above 55 degrees for it to work well. If you put it out before a big rain a lot of it washes away.
