What do you guys have and suggest?
My step father left his with my grandfathers gear and when papa died someone else snitched it.
I want to get him a decent setup for Christmas. I'm thinking a longer pole, but I really don't do Crappie fishing much.
I'm game to suggestions. Going to Bass Pro tomorrow with my wife and daughter, thought I'd pick it up while there. Gonna be hard to not buy black licorice that I used to pick up there for Papa.

My personal preference is a 6 - 6.5’ light with a 1000/1500 size reel. We do a lot of dock shooting and I do best with that combination, but can also cast it well too
Most of my crappie rods are $50ish Lew’s combos and do just fine. Never seen a need to spend more than that

I’ve switched to all piscifun spinning reels (2000 and 3000 series) for crappie. Very good reels and inexpensive. Hook that on an eagle claw featherlight rod makes a great combination.

Y’all will laugh. I used to cut my own cane poles. Had a big patch of them growing not far from the house. Cut them about 14 ft. Tie them in a tree with weights at the bottom. When they cure put some stain on them. Will last for years.
