I’ll shoot one with a bow, but not a rifle. I get no pleasure killing gnome with a rifle. No challenge to me. Some of them old does can be harder to kill them a buck. The pleasure for me comes when I turn them into good sausage, bacon burger, cube steaks and ground and mixed with ribeye and brisket trimmings.

How many folks know the average live weight for the does you've taken over the last 5 years? I’d say ours is around 95lbs. Some years we averaged around 100lbs. Most does we kill are in the 85 to 115lb range. When I get to the camp I can get you the exact number. We have weights of every deer killed on our place since we got in the 2012/2013 season.

I need to kill 4-5 but I have them on leads in areas I don’t want them shot and not seen where they’re free game. I’ll probably wage war at some point. I do notice the more does I have the less bucks are around. I went from covered up in bucks and 8-10 does to 20-30 does and 5-6 bucks. Nobody around here shoots does. Need to get back at them.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Some of that comes with improvements in habitat as well......The better habitat tends to attract the does

Went to my dad’s property last week and sat on a cutover. Now I could see 500-700 yards in every direction so take that into consideration but I seen 15 deer 14 we’re bucks confirmed anywhere from spike up to a 6 point and only 1 was a doe. According to cams they have way more bucks than does. What is the correct ratio? Looks like we need to head on up there and have a buck killing to even it out.

How many folks know the average live weight for the does you've taken over the last 5 years? We shoot so few, mostly a few by the bowhunters. I would imagine about 80-85 pounds.

I was talking to a guy at our club this weekend about killing does. He mentioned a podcast that he saw related to some study by the MS State guys. This study stated that if a doe fawn reaches 60 lbs it can be bread and that if you kill a momma deer, the doe fawn is more likely to be bred and that young does like that deliver 70 buck fawns. Thoughts?
The guy also said that if you kill a momma deer that has a buck fawn, he won't get run off and is more likely to stay in the area.
Just interested to hear the experts opinions on these ideas.
Here's to champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends.

Those are interesting points!!
Back in the day when the experts did show and tell and would show a smaller doe and a bigger doe and ask which one to shoot - they said both
But bama does hav taken a hit since then. My wilcox county spot is over run with them. I never trap dogs in this area for this reason - they need to get some does. I hate shooting them - but i need to get serious and whack some. May start again Thursday or so! 5 more would put me at 8 and make some impact!! May sacrifice buck hunting this year. To wet to go anywhere currently
