Cameras are a tool no different than the apps people use for info and corn is bait no different than a food plot. I don't think it makes you better or worse of a hunter. If people want to go primitive and chunk spears at them then go right ahead. If you want to hunt over a corn pile with a camera go for that too.

Man I agree, its why I recommend folks do more squirrel hunting.

I wish I could find a place loaded with fox squirrels.

At least folks used to have to watch out the back window for yard deer to show up......Now the camera just sends you a pic to alert you that he's at the corn pile.......... rofl

Playing 3 sides of the coin - heads, tails, and sides - I think there has been a great benefit to this corn and camera situation that nobody talks about. What about all those up and coming bucks that are passed because an El Muy Grande was captured on camera at 2:30 one night? My sons and I do that on my place pretty regular. We usually do some pre-season and early season camera work with corn and we usually identify a few bucks we wouldn't mind killing. We hunt those bucks or new ones that may show up in that same antler class and leave the dinks and baskets alone. I cant be the only one doing this... although i can appreciate the mindset that Billy Bubba with a game cam and sacks of corn shoots whatever shows up.

I enjoy checking pics. I got 1 old school non cell camera over 2 feeding areas (flash less than cell) and one cell at a wooded spot. You know more about your heard!!

All deer are different - but my really good amd also mature deer - act like they hate cameras. Hav for years!! Most of mine going to a road when i get next chance. Got a stud 7 - big - got his pic one day - acted like he hated the camera - aint been back. Got snother stud 7 - he went down in rack size some this year - got him multiple times acted freaked out to camera - even got running away pics 🤣🤣. Dont come around much. I get these with most of my really good mature bucks - not all - but most.
One of the bettr hunters i know told me - if u want to kill really good mature bucks - take the freaking camera down!!

My big field only has camera in it early season. That way last year - most of my fields about to get that way - doing for pressure - stress only

I could give a crap what everybody else does 😀

So you have corn feeders with cameras on them but you don’t hunt in the area of the cameras?

Why do you put cameras on them? Why not put your cameras where you are gonna hunt?

I’m not knocking your method at all. Just trying to understand your reasoning is all.

Not sure about how/why wk2hnt does his thing. But for me I just like knowing what’s on the property. I have four patches with feeders on them that never get hunted and most likely never will. Literally one field has been hunted once in the last 4-5yrs and the others have not. That was only because the wife wanted to go watch some deer on “her” patch one evening. I use those areas as sanctuaries. Only time I go in there is to top off feed, camera maintenance and planting.

I have a small patch that I keep cameras and corn on year round. I find it interesting how and when it gets used by the critters that live around my 96 acres. I look at 1000s of pics. every year. This is how I hunt now that I am not able to get out much anymore.

I try and keep the cameras in places where I can see what’s in the general area I hunt in. Only have a couple of corn feeeders throwing just I little one time a day on 2 places and have gravity feeders with buck muscle on my other place. Buck muscle is a pellet of alfalfa with corn and a mineral coating on it and I have it in 3 feeders and they are eating about 11 bags per week right now which is getting expensive but it think it’s really helpful in holding deer. I like it because I’m not getting coon activity on it also. I have some cameras on bigger ag fields just to see what’s around and using the area and I do have stands on those fields so I guess technically I do sometimes hunt around a camera but not necessarily close to it. I might be 800 yards or farther away.

I run cameras on the feeders during summer and early fall and on trophy rocks in places they have been placed for years

Those cornholers are losing their woodsmanship and scouting skills. Hell scouting is as much fun as hunting to me, trying to figure out where they are feeding, bedding and how they move. Very rewarding when you "figure out" a buck and take him. I have hunted with and without bait and killed both ways. Baiting is expensive and a pia to me hauling corn in and leaving scent everywhere and reminds me of kissing an ugly chick, you know you should like it but it just feels wrong. But deer love corn and even a rookie can shoot deer over it.

I'm thinking sxs should be outlawed, people used to have to tote corn to a stand. To easy now

Ha yes the sxs has made it easy to tote corn. Like 2dogs said hunting was more fun when it was against the law. Now every swinging d can hunt over it and think they are great deer hunters plus a whole generation of kids think it’s the only way to hunt. I had a 17 year old ask me this week about a deer I killed last Friday and questioned how long was he at the feeder before you shot him.

I kinda see both sides of it. I mean everyone has a right to hunt how they want within the law. People have been creating food sources for animals and hunting over them forever so I really don’t see how it makes you less of a hunter. Maybe a different Hunter but not less of one. I kinda do both. I look for sign and hunt natural food sources but I will also hunt over man made ones. I see nothing wrong with hunting over agriculture whether it be corn or a corn field or a food plot.

So wk2hnt… where do you personally draw the line? Well you not shoot a buck if you feel like he is headed to eat your man made food source? Or is it ok if he’s headed to it but just not right on it when you kill him? I can be a smart butt on here sometimes but I am not trying to be here lol. Genuinely asking!
