Got drawn as an alternate for Portland, Cedar Creek, and Uchee Creek, all for the same weekend. I deer hunted Portland a few years ago, but that's my only experience on one of those properties. Anyone have an opinion or recommendation on which property might be better for turkeys?

If you're wondering, I had 65 preference points so I was due to finally get drawn, though I can't believe it was all for alternate positions and not a hunter slot!

Thanks in advance.

I can’t help with turkey hunting any of SOA’s in question as I have only been on a deer hunt in Cedar Creek. I got picked for a Turkey Hunt on Cedar Creek for May 2 thru May 4. Looking forward to what should be a fun time.

Any info on Fred t Stimpson? Never been there. Got many turkeys? I’ve hunted cedar creek for Turkey once before I knew much what I was doing and heard a few and missed one.

How do you amass that many points? I think I have only two. Or do I have a total of all points per hunt? I've applied the past two years since drawing but only selective dates. Can you get preference points by registering for other type hunts?

I would not give up points for a alternate, if you are not upgraded to hunter you lose your points. There is no telling how far down the list you will be.

I think you DO NOT lose points if you are an alternate but not chosen. However, you will lose all points if you forget to register. I started over this year due to not registering last year.

I had 65 pt and got 4/18 on Cedar Creek. Is the hunting good enough there to tell my wife I will be gone Easter weekend?

Still not sure on this, Is The turkey hurting and deer hunting separate on preference points. I am hoping that the two are in fact separate.

Coosa 1, thanks for that clarification, because I was under the same impression....you only lose your points if you get bumped up to hunter.

BamaEyeDoc, I had the same thing happen a few years ago....I apparently forgot to register one year and lost all of my points and had to start over. So frustrating, but at the same time, I get it.

I got Uchee 4-4 hunt w/217 points and 4 alternate positions for Portland. It would be great if I got unit 11 same as my deer hunt on 1-30.

I'm hoping for 11 as well. We've got the 01/16 hunt on 11 and the three cell cams I have out have been full of turkeys there.

When taking a guest on SOA hunt are they allowed to carry a gun and kill a turkey as well?
