This is from lily’s dad. His name is Jason. I’ve never known a man as strong in faith as him. He is a giant. This was put together by Rick Karle

Heaven gained an angel yesterday.
Lily Beam was 17 years old, a junior at Hoover High School (AL), beautiful inside and out.
Lily fought Acute Myloid Leukemia for years.
She was brave and courageous, just like her family members.
Jason and Courtney Beam love Jesus.
They have leaned on Him to keep them strong as their family has faced numerous challenges.
Jason and Courtney lost their son Tucker to cancer in 2009.
Courtney has battled breast cancer, a brain tumor and an eye tumor.
Jason has recovered from a tumor in his leg.
Now the family has lost Lily.
Today, Jason sent me his thoughts about his daughter Lily, who went to Heaven yesterday afternoon.
I hope you have moment to read Jason’s beautiful note:
“Rick,
“Dr Rutledge described LILY in one word. That she was “Illuminating”. She would illuminate a place or room.
“Another doctor when addressing plans and care for Lily to us, basically at every hour or sooner, she would call her “LILY HOPE”. I liked that. There was always HOPE when she was around.
“When we got to go back and see her yesterday after she had passed away, and they had taken all the wires, tubes, needles and pumps off her, she was laying peacefully in bed, finally at total and complete peace. And she had that little grin, as if to say ‘I know something you don’t know’.
“A perfect score on the ACT is 36. Lily made 34 on 1 or 2 parts of the pre-ACT already, and was supposed to take the regular test for the first time this past Saturday.
Lily asked us “What if I make a perfect 36 on the ACT exam?”. My answer was probably a little bold. ‘You pick a cruise anywhere around the world to go on, and we will do it,’ I said. But that was not as bold as her reply. ‘Now where are we gonna go?’ She said. And was already actively planning it out. Classic Lily.
“To be so on top of things, and to have everything exactly as she wanted it and everything in its perfect place, she was the messiest eater I’ve ever seen. Seriously.
She helped baby sit kids, and I would say that a 3 year old’s eating area would be cleaner than hers was. It was unreal. We joked about it often.
“Lily could sing like a song bird, but rarely around anyone else. Because that’s who she was. Perfect harmony and pitch. She would sing all around the house, even in the shower that shared a bathroom with Micah (the Beam’s adopted son from China). He really, really loved that early in the morning or late at night. It was like he got a free concert that he didn’t want.
“Lily was so polite and thankful to everyone. That was just her. Even in this last stay, as she felt horrible, she would say ‘Thank You’ to whoever just put an IV in her or did a procedure. And still said ‘Yes Ma’am’ and ‘Yes sir’ repeatedly to all around her as cancer attacked her body.
“Lily got her determination and toughness from her mom. Lily’s latest cancer was the 11th we faced as a family over 24 yrs.
Back in October Courtney was diagnosed with cancer. Her 5th diagnosis. She underwent major surgery, then went back in for an infection. Courtney had her first chemo treatment last Wednesday, and while she was pouring all she had out this week to Lily, her counts were down and she had no energy.
“When people tell us ‘I don’t know how you do it’, it all starts with faith and strength in Jesus Christ. That’s where we get get our power, because it’s His power and strength.
But that is carried out through our family, friends and amazing church family over all this time who have supported us.
If you look around this room our support, strength and encouragement is very evident.
“We want to acknowledge and recognize all the amazing folks and staff at Children’s Hospital.
All the people from ER, ICU, Imaging, Surgical, Hemoc/Oncology, Respiratory, Chaplains, Child Life, The Clinic, Anesthesia, Children’s Harbor, Genetics, Orthopedics, Camp Smile a Mile, Physical Therapy, Social Services and others I’m sure I’m leaving out. We have had interaction with all of these over 24 yrs, and they are all at the top of their fields and world class.
“Seeing in real time all the teams coordinate, think through everything, calculate and execute care for Lily, against a very aggressive and complex cancer diagnosis was remarkable to see and experience.
“We have been to and seen several places around the country for consults, treatment and care, and Children’s of Alabama holds a backseat to know one. Anywhere. Period.
They worked tirelessly and relentlessly caring for our daughter. They gave everything they had to the very last second.
As one doctor said ‘We shot every bullet in every gun we had at this cancer, then we through all the guns also at it,’ she said. And they will do the same for any of your kids. Without question or delay.
“On May 14th 2009, we watched them break ground on the new hospital, from our son Tucker’s room on the old 4 tower in the old bldg. Tuck spent his last weeks on earth there. And as we saw them break ground, we were just looking out at air at the time, that would become a state of the art hospital where, in ICU room 717, Lily would spend her last days. Really remarkable to think about.
“There is power in prayer and compassion and comfort from God Almighty when we call on Him and seek Him. For basically 4 days when we either had no words, or had very specific words and prayer requests, thousands of people bowed their heads and raised their voices in prayer for us. Every major hurdle we’ve had, God has moved in so many ways and through prayer over us by so many people.
“Just a wrap up challenge for us to take away from here: My last words for the staff were, ‘What was one thing they did, that they wouldn’t do again?’ Ewith her case, and ‘What’s one thing they didn’t do, that they would do’ as a takeaway from her case to help the next one.
“So, as we end the year this Christmas season, what’s one thing you didn’t do to grow your faith and relationship with Jesus, that you knew you were called to do, but didn’t do it?
Write it down and carry it with you and simply now do it. And if you don’t know Jesus, then your one thing is this:
“Write ‘I want to know Jesus’ and follow Him in faith today.
Don’t put it off.
Trust us.
Life on earth is truly short.”
Beautiful words indeed from Jason Beam.
I know the family is struggling this morning.
I know we will all take a moment to leave the family a comment.
And I know that beautiful Lily is now Resting In Peace.

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
