I just got access to about 40 acres give or take to hunt. It’s in an urban ish area and borders water on its left side. I only have 2-3 cameras I can put out. I’m young compared to the rest of yall and need advice on where I should put out the cameras/what I should do since I just now got access to this and have limited cameras. Would appreciate the suggestions.

Check out on x for terrain features, also see where transitions occur. Look for possible food and bedding areas and set up around. Boots on the ground and look for sign. Congrats on the acquisition. The right 40 acres can very much produce good deer.

You can get a pretty good inventory on 40 acres with a couple sacks of corn and a camera or two

ETA…be careful on walking it too much. With a smaller tract like that, limiting pressure will be key

This. I’d add, find a well used trail to put that corn on. You’ll get a better idea of what’s running around there a lot quicker by putting corn out where the deer are instead of where you want them to be. Be cognizant of how you’ll be accessing the property, what wind you’ll need to keep it out of the deer’s path of travel and how you get to any potential stand sites. It’s already late in the game and as mentioned, limiting pressure will be key to getting on any mature deer in the area.

City deer imo depend more on their eyes than nose. They smell people 24 hours a day.

Dont walk thru it during prime times

Good luck
Bag or 2 of corn on ground with a camera over it in a few weeks you can see what u got. Investigate potential stand sites n middle of the day

Can you rifle hunt it? Some folks won't like a boom stick going off, they'll think you might hit lil johnny. I've hunted place like this but used a crossbow

Yeah , some folks damn sure call the law if you a city limits . Plus you got to be 100 yards away from any buildings too shoot and the deer got to be a 100 yards away from a building when you shoot it.

Put some smell good powder in your corn pile and if a deer moving across that 40 acres they will find it. I would bow hunt it and just hunt corn. Feeders or piles whatever you can afford. Small urban tracks are weird it might have a few shooters on it or there may not be a single buck on it.

I don’t know for sure but I only really use my crossbow so I’m not planning on using one. A couple years ago though I was shooting, a .22 at some targets in the woods by my house and a neighbor called the cops on me for ‘duck hunting with a high powered rifle.’ So I’m sure they would call the cops in a heartbeat lol.

I would use the crossbow and no one will probably know you are there.

Powdered kool aid is the cheapest. Or you can use a flavored rice bran. Put the rice bran over the corn so they have to dig around in the pile a little. Kind of makes it last longer.
