Here’s my belly ache, I just retired and get my entitlement, my wife is 4 years younger and makes a lot more money than I so, she will get her entitlement, if she passes before me I get a bump up to her rate, if I pass before her she gets none of mine. My oldest brother did 30 years AF, retired and doing a federal job now, his wife during their marriage hasn’t worked enough to earn SS benefits however she is entitled to 50% of his entitlement and he is entitled to 100% of his entitlement. So they can get 150% of 100% entitlements while both are living and yet my wife and I can only get 100% of 200% entitlement’s if one of us passes
This isn’t a knock on veterans or service members Veterans DON NOT get a special privilege like that, so that info is false. ANY spouse can get 50% of the 100% total if the person waits on full retirement age.

I would happily opt out TODAY, if I got what i paid in back to fund my own retirement package.
No kidding. The bottom line is nobody should ever get SS benefits that exceed what they have paid into it. Anything else is theft of money from other people who paid that money.

I am pretty sure if you do not pay into regular ss you get little if any benefit. I know of a couple of guys who worked cash their whole life and got an unpleasant surprise come retirement time. You sure you’re not getting confused about ssi disability, no income requirements there. I'm not mixing SSI thoughts up with SS retirement Brad.. "CR" is right....I paid in full Soc Sec every paycheck with full time employment and into the RSA TR fund too...it wasn't elective it was mandatory. When I see and know of people who never paid into Soc Sec it bugs and batters the heck out of me. It really kicks me when one says dang man you paid in and you get less than I do... then they talk of their food stamps,,, their housing voucher, medicaid and anything else ...oh yeah the flex card too... several hundred dollars ... free internet too.. partial payments to ones utility bills.. IF I qualify and am eligible to get back what was deducted from my Soc Sec payments because I was paying into a pension fund I want that money they shorted me on back.
