Not to derail, but how far out can y’all shoot the sub 300blk? I’d like to have a gun to shoot yotes with sub, but need about 175-200 yards out of it. Is that possible?

I’d do 60yds max for deer and might stretch that out to 75yds for a yote. You can theoretically shoot them past that, but you’re essentially just lobbing and hoping past that. Any chance of bullet expansion seems to rapidly diminish as well. I wouldn’t hunt with subs unless you had to (such as hunting closer to houses and stuff)

My neighbor has a .308 with a can , it sounds like a 22 magnum. I'd go with a .308, you could always load reduced loads for it.

300 Black does nothing that a subsonic 308 won't do, and only a fraction of what a supersonic 308 can do.
If I was looking at a dedicated subsonic rifle, I would look no further than a .375 Raptor. Objectively compare the ballistics of the 375 vs 8.6 blk or 300 blk, and you won't choose anything besides the .375 Raptor. I am currently trying to convince my OCD that it doesn't need a 375 Raptor, especially since I own multiple suppressors.
270 grain supersonics hit 2130 FPS, and 400 grain subs hit 1050 FPS. Would be awesome for a woods/treestand rifle. Realistically, that's faster than a .35 Remington 200 grain supersonic round, with a 35% heavier bullet.
Yes, I am a new caliber addict, with no desire to reform or rehab.

I have a few suppressors but I just don’t understand the desire to deer hunt with subsonics. Range is extremely limited and terminal performance ranges from mediocre to terrible.
3 examples from the past week shooting supersonic rounds unsuppressed.
1- shot a coyote with a deer a feeder 150 yards away. Deer never raised its head to even look in my direction.
2- shot a coyote with a buck bedded 100 yards from me. Buck didn’t even get up.
3- shot a deer with 3 other deer feeding within 100 yards, they didn’t even pick their heads up at the shot.
Sure I love banging steel with a suppressed 22 but when I go hunting I want to kill things in the most efficient manner at whatever distance they appear.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

We have shot deer at 100 and sighted in at 100 with 300blk sub and it does great. I would not shoot one over 150 with it though. I would vote 308 anyday If they are both subsonic, why ? Burning more powder to do the same work.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Thanks for the input. Leaning on 308 sub and suppressed. Write ups suggest 300 blk out is more accurate but only good out to 150 yds which seems plenty but when talking with people who actually use them they stay less than 100 yds. 308 harder to find but can load if I need to.
300 bo is more accurate than a 308? Is that just in AR style rifles ? A 308 is one of the most inheretently accurate calibers there is.

300 bo is more accurate than a 308? Is that just in AR style rifles ? A 308 is one of the most inheretently accurate calibers there is. I don’t see how either of these can be objectively true. And the statement is a bit confusing. For starters, .300blk and .308Win/7.62x51 shoot the exact same bullets. They are both .308cal. The cartridges are optimized for different weapon designs and the 300blk is more niche, excelling in a short barreled AR platform, for example, while the .308win is optimized for a 18-20”+ rifle. But when you handicap your weapon to subsonic use then difference in ballistics is nullified. You won’t realize a performance edge pushing a 200gr .308 bullet at 1040fps out of an 18” .308win over pushing the same 200gr .308 at 1040fps out of a 9” .300blk barrel.
