16 and have hunter ed course I think Not in Alabama. It always irked me that a 10 year old or younger can legally hunt by themself with no Hunter's Ed, but they turn 16 they have to have the course under their belt.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Make sure you get The King's Corn License if any bait is on the property. That one is required regardless of age or license. I started deer hunting alone at the age of 11. I was squirrel hunting by myself somewhere around the age of 9. Not sure if it was legal or not but one thing I am sure of. I have a 10 year old son and I make sure he has his corn tariff receipt in the form of “ an hard card” and so does anyone hunting with us. The math says you can pay the tariff for around 30 years before it costs you more than one ticket.

Nope. In AL there is no age. The ONLY time a youth must be accompanied by an adult is youth season or during a designated youth hunt on public lands. The rest of the season they can hunt alone without HE or a license. Yeah, makes no sense, but is what it is, unless they’ve changed the law. When they turn 16 they must have a license of course, but until then, they can hunt alone. I was hunting alone at age 11/12. Some kids are ready and some aren’t. My dad put me at the base of a tree when I was 12.

I know a kid that will bow hunt by himself, then have to sit with his dad youth weekend of gun, then after that he will hunt by himself again. It’s comical. When I was 9 my grandpaw gave me a 20 gauge and told me to climb that sweet gum to a board that was nailed on 2 limbs and 15’ high. He said he would be back after dark to get me. I thought it was never gonna get dark that day lol. I didn’t sit in the same stand as someone until I was a senior in high school. If her dad only knew lol

As far as the law goes I don’t think there is a specific age but for me it depends of the child’s maturity level, common sense and how well he/she was taught gun safety and hunting safety/courtesy in general. My dad let me go by myself when I was probably 13ish. But my 14 year old daughter is NOT ready to be in a stand by herself and may never be.
Workin for the man, huntin when I can.
