I’m looking at scopes to put on my browning xbolt 270. I think I’ve about settled on a Leupold VX 3HD 3.5-10x50 Firedot Twilight Hunter. Most shots would be between 100-200 yards, at times longer on some of the powerlines I hunt. Is this scope adequate or is there a better option for this application? I’m not looking to spend $2k on a scope but open to spending more than what this scope goes for if there is a better option for my needs.

Look at the vortex scopes. They are really good and for the money and quality of the glass they are hard to beat

The Leupold will most certainly serve You well and I seriously doubt You will be wanting for more of a scope than the Leupold.

I’ve said it over and over again, but I would take a huge look at the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-10x56

You don’t have to have much glass to make 100-200 yard shots. Leupold or Vortex is fine.

all you need is a Simmons Pro Hunter , 3-9x50mm.

You will be more than pleased.

I have one In an 40mm and it has served me well and held zero.

Great scope for the money

Fire dot recticle is awesome

I think the Leupold you mentioned will be a great choice.

10x is plenty for 200 yds. Leupold has great quality, American made, outstanding customer service.

I hav enjoyed meopta amd zeiss better

Just a few years back bought one of the most expensive loupys - loupy sucks on drawing in light - clarity and it just not clear sometimes. When i was young - i would fight for the name loupold. Get pissed off when anybody talked against Then one of the bettr hunters i know said lets test em in the field. His other brand smoked my loupy. He said - tried telling u dummy (he was my best friend 🤣🤣)
I heard of all great improvements in here - purchased high dollar one. My Zeiss and meopta kick its butt!! Ended up selling my Vx6 w a fire dot up in here for way less than i paid - not too many were jumping at it either 🤣🤣 lost lot of $$ and was disappointed

Go test em in the field if u hav the opportunity then know for yourself. I will never own another loupy!! Good-luck

Go to Sport Optics and buy a Swarovski Z5i 2.4-12x50 BT - Plex-I if you have to have an illuminated retical ($1500) or a Swarovski Z5 2.4-12x50 Plex ($1300) if an illuminated retical isn’t a necessity for you. Will pull in a ton more light than any Leupold, and you will not be disappointed. Purchased the latter for my son 2 years ago, and it is far superior to the 50 mm Leupold he was previously using.

And check 24hrcampfire classifieds forums for great deals on used.

I would focus in on:

VX-5 (euro optic will have some great demo pricing)
Accupoint (euro optic has the best prices)
Zeiss V4 (redhawk rifles has great demo pricing)

These three will give you illuminated reticles for under 1k.

I have found that the quality of glass needed rises with my age. Big time.

Watch for sales if you aren't in a hurry. Schmidt-Bender is a great scope, and EuroOptic runs them at great prices occasionally, as well as open box demo scopes. For them, that means it was handled at a show, and they sell it at a discount. I have bought several of their open box scopes, and was never able to find a mounting mark or a scratch.

Last Schmidt 2.5-10 x 56mm I bought was just a few hundred more than the Leupold you mentioned

I run several vortex vipers and recently got a vx3-HD from a member on here. In my comparison, the Vx3 is the better optic.

I don’t know what kind of Leupolds you are looking through. I can clearly see to shoot 10 minutes after legal shooting time with mine. A $1500 zeiss will probably be better than a $300 Leupold. I have not found toto be true if you compare scopes of the same price range. I’ve never seen a meopta perform like s Leupold.

Some of yall must be hunting WAY later than legal hours to need $1300-$1500 scopes to shoot 100 yards.
