Driving between Bham and Montgomery for about the 20th time this month got me thinking about how the deer might be different between the East and West side of I-65. I hypothesize that the area between the Gump and B-Ham should have noticeably different deer because not a damn single deer can seem to cross the dang interstate successfully. In the evolutionary genetics starter course that is called Restricted Gene Flow.
I have noticed more deer in the southbound median and if that means anything, I do not know.

The amount of dead deer on the interstates and state highways seems to be substantially higher at this time than the years past. And for the first time in my life I’ve seen dead hogs on 80 East outside of Shorter the past two weeks.

I think the Aldeer general fund has enough in it to finance a University study on it.

In which direction are those that get hit in that lane headed? That would be what makes the difference…

You have to take into consideration the smart ones... I have trail Cam pics of deer heavily using a creek underpass/ culvert from West to East under I-65 in Chilton county. It's poured concrete about 8x8....

Who needs a University study when you have CNC?

That’s 95% of them. Our lease borders an interstate and we see them use creeks all the time to cross.
