Matt, do you ever think our state will go toward seasons where we have a more limited rifle seasons and etc or what’s the reason for some states having it and not others? The terrain and ease of killing deer with rifles in flat land?
Not saying I’m for it or against it, just curious.
Not under the current admin. They think everything is fine and keep passing regs to provide more opportunity and less regulation on private land, while continuing to have very limited opportunity on public land.
Most states with limited rifle or modern gun days have completely different terrain and habitat types than we do. Heavily forested broken up landscapes have historically been home to high deer populations, while agricultural ground with broken forests corridors have had low to moderate deer populations. You can not have increased gun opportunity in those areas. It would decimate a deer population rather quickly. Also, the same basic forested landscapes exist all along the northeast, and they have high deer populations in places, but way less gun opportunity. They’re also more heavily populated with ppl so they don’t need longer seasons. I don’t know what the solution is to AL’s conundrum. We have such a jacked up breeding map from a diversity of stocking sources. It makes it complicated. Also, land ownership patterns are vastly different in the TN valley vs central AL vs Southeast AL, etc.
I completely understand the state trying to provide liberal seasons and allowing landowners the ability to decide what to do, but that was only a good idea until the modern technological advancement of weaponry, cell cameras, baiting, drones, etc. It’s not sustainable with all of that collectively.
