Although Iran has one of the biggest supplies of natural gas and crude oil in the world, it is in a full-blown energy crisis that can be attributed to years of sanctions, mismanagement, aging infrastructure, wasteful consumption — and targeted attacks by Israel.

“We are facing very dire imbalances in gas, electricity, energy, water, money and environment,” said President Masoud Pezeshkian in a live televised address to the nation this month. “All of them are at a level that could turn into a crisis.”

While Iran has been struggling with issues with its infrastructure for years, the president warned that the problem had reached a critical point. The government faced two stark choices. It either had to cut gas service to residential homes or shut down the supply to power plants that generated electricity."

I was in 6th grade at the time. One of my friend's dad was one of the 5 airmen killed on the helicopter that went down in the sandstorm, which caused the rescue mission to be aborted. I can still remember when the principal personally came to our classroom just after lunch that day, whispered something to our teacher and asked that Scott come with him to his office. We didnt know what was going on, just that something big was happening based on the look on the faces of the teacher and the principal. We thought that Scott was in real trouble for something really bad. As it turned out, he was getting Scott out of class so that his mother could tell him that his father had been killed and take him home. They lived three houses up the street from us. Our recently passed nice guy, but absolutely worthless pacifist and globalist, Jimmy Carter, was the president at the time and approved the mission. Had Carter had a spine, the hostages would have never been taken in the first place. Reagan won the election and had already sent word that all the Iranians leaders were going to be targeted and killed, along with their families, if they were not released immediately. Coincidentally they were released and put on planes home, the exact same day that Reagan swore his oath and was inaugurated. Peace through strength.....something that a democrat can never seem to learn.

Abolt ,,,, when I worked in Fort Walton in early 80s I had a couple drinking buddies that was in on that from Eglin . They said it was damned from the start the way they wanted to do it . Ever body knew the choppers they used could not do that mission .

I was in the 10th grade abolt. I had already made up my mind that I was going into the military after high school and this really upset me about all the service members that died like your classmate and friend. My heart still hurts for all of the family members that lost loved ones that day. They all were heroes that volunteered for a mission that was highly likely many would die. I had cut out all of the pictures of the airman, marines and soldiers from a news magazine and taped them to my wall in remembrance. I probably still have them somewhere. After the failed rescue mission, I swore that I wouldn’t enlist until Carter was out of office.

Hopefully the people will otherthrow the mullahs. Very doubtful but not impossible. About half the people are decent.
