They’re already in Tennessee so be patient and grow old and they’ll eventually migrate further south

I-65 and Elk will not mix well. A 750# bull elk would make a mess of a Kia... He'd total an F350 lol

I've called in bugleing elk on public land out west and those are my favorite hunting memories. As much as I love hearing and watching them I can't see it ever being the same in Alabama.

No- if you think coons getting into your trash is aggravating, wait until an elk tears the deck off your camp rubbing their antlers... and I agree with the statement not enough big open country.

I met with a representative from the RMEF one time to evaluate habitat condition for elk reintroduction in north AL. We spent most of the day riding around Bankhead and surrounding private land. My answer was a resounding NO, and I never heard back after they left. Don’t have a clue whatever became of that visit. That's awesome that you were involved in some discussion on this. What were your reasons for saying no? I assume mostly the factors laid out by others on here? Btw, I enjoy your podcast a great deal, even as someone without a ton of experience. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and the discussion on this. Good stuff.

They would wipe out some corn piles Be like that many more bears and hogs tearing up stuff. They tear up more than hogs/bears. They are nosey and mess with everything lol. I put flag markers in fiends to see if elk are coming in and they yank them right up. Saves on cameras

Our culture is not ready for a large ungulate weighing several lbs that herds and travels in groups. 2. The Bankhead forest, and especially the Wilderness Area supports a low deer density due to the way the forest is managed. It is not capable of providing for animals that consume what they require. 3. The human conflict dimension would be astronomical in the adjacent TN River Valley. Without expounding, that’s it in a nutshell shell.
