I would love, love, love to have elk here, but for reasons pointed out, I'm not sure it is feasible. As bad as deer have been on my vehicles, I'm sure ALFA doesn't want them.

Having said that, I will say that they eat better than deer. As long as that is a factor, my late grandmother used to tell me all the time how much better she liked moose meat over any other type of meat, including beef, so let's get some moose back in our swamps.

The Mississippi delta would be superb for elk. Crop land for miles

Can you imagine how bad we’d fight and bicker about hunting those things? No way our hunting culture would tolerate the tag type system required to manage animals that range that far. Aside from Bankhead and a few other spots, not enough continuous land to allow a herd to operate right anyway.

Think what a 150-lb whitetail will do to a Honda Accord, or Suburban, for that matter. Elk are 600 lbs. 'Nuff said.

I wouldn’t think our state has the habitat for them. Maybe a couple isolated areas. Could you imagine a bull elk trying to walk through a 5 year old pine plantation? Most areas are, have been, or will be just that within a 20 year period. And I agree with others, elk and cars don’t mix. Also, you know them suckers will be laying dead in the woods with the backstraps cut out of them before they get a chance to breed and expand anyhow.

High Fence Elk plantations would be annoying for Timber and his Mom.
How big would a "small pen" have to be? My guess is too big for Timber to be able to effectively hunt it with his methods.
